Were the Irish once British?

It doesn't seem that way to me, the British despised the Irish back in the day, maybe today too, so I doubt it, any other opinions?

It is believed that the Celts came from Spain after the last ice age. The Welsh have similar genes to the Irish - R1b haplogroup.
So I guess that they were all related 10000 years ago.
