What computer do you use?

Or are you one of those people that doesn't need a computer and solely uses a tablet or phone for internet browsing?

I was using this:

But 6 years later it won't seem to turn on properly - after scouring Google for answers, seems like one of the RAM chips are loose (*shrugs shoulders*), so will have to schedule a hopefully-not-too-pricey trip to Mr Computer Repair Man in the near future. It lasted me right the way through 4 years of university and about the same number of relationships, yet it is still as fast as ever and I could navigate the thing seamlessly in my sleep.

In the meantime I am using this infernal contraption:

Now I know how everyone's grandparents feel - I've used Windows computers since I was 6 and can barely seem to figure anything out on this! Not to mention it's rather slow and keeps freezing on me.

What do you use? With photos, if you like!

Becky, if the RAM chips simply need to be reseated, take a look at this link. It shows how to access the RAM on a Sony Vaio laptop. If you are grounded, you should be able to access those chips and reseat them properly if they aren't already snug in their slots.

I could see how a lot of physical movement and transportation might loosen up those chips with time. Just make sure you are grounded when you do it, so you aren't conducting any static electricity while touching the innards of your laptop.

Me? I've been building my own PCs since the late 80s. Still prefer the desktop to any laptop as I can fix or replace components far easier.

Thankyou, I appreciate it :) will give this a go asap & see if it helps!

Just be absolutely sure you're grounded before touching your computer. (RAM chips are VERY sensitive to any external static charge.)

I do know how wonky a computer can boot up if those chips aren't properly seated. Just went through that on my legacy computer. Made a few changes inside and didn't seat the pins of one of the chips just right...and it let me know! LOL.

Mid-2012 13" i7 MacBook Pro, now running Yosemite. Apple detractors be damned, I love it. The extra RAM goes a long way, and the only problem I've run into is with the optical drive...had to get it replaced a few months back. Unsurprising given the nature of any thing with moving parts, especially those fancy slots. But I couldn't live without the optical drive. There are some design choices that I think are stupid, but mostly those are minor annoyances.

I moved to this computer after using Windows for many years. I love Windows, but I've looked back only a very few times since getting this machine.

I use a white Sony Vaio similar to the first picture. I bought it from Amazon last year after my old laptop (an HP Pavilion) died. I like this one much better. It doesn't overheat for no apparent reason, it cools down quickly, and it runs games - well, the one game I play - smoothly. I also like the fact that it can play Blu-Ray discs.

One that I built myself
Some one built this lovely BEAUTIFUL translucent blue with pretty lights computer for me! I wish I was scientist and computer genius. (I am interested......still time to learn?????) I have Linux OS , but not very well, cuz now the "busybox" is there with type 'help' for commands, but RUN, RESET, and EXIT not doing much for me. anyone have any kind pleasant help to add? please? I feel so special with the Linux. hehehehe
thank you!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 4 year old MacBook Pro. I do a lot of my browsing from my iPad, though, because it's easier to carry around. :P The laptop is usually connected to a scanner and extra monitor for photo work, so it's not very portable, anymore.

I started with Windows when I was little (I remember playing MS DOS games as a toddler). I transitioned pretty gradually to Mac. My cousin had one that I used when I was at her house and I had a little laptop that had it, while I still had a Windows computer. When my HP died, I opted to make the transition because I'd found that I actually preferred the way the Mac was set up. All the back and forth is beneficial, though, because I've stayed pretty current on both systems and can transition back and forth easily. (I guess that's what happens when you're raised by a computer geek.)

I'm using an Emachine desktop with Windows 7. I bought all of the parts for a gaming computer but never got the thing together until after I bought the computer I'm using now. I will have to install the software. I guess I'm getting tired of building computers which most of mine were. This will be the 4th one that I finally got around to building. Those darn things become obsolete so fast. I still have the very first computer with Windows 95 that I built. Anyone remember DeskMate? :)

I have a late 2012 Mac Mini Server with an Intel i7 running 3 gHz, 2 1 terabyte hard drives (1 drive devoted to Yosemite, 1 drive devoted to windows 7 64-bit under boot camp, 1 SuperDrive cd/DVDs burner, 16 gb memory.

I've not been using it very much, due to having carpal tunnel surgery recently. I've been using my iPad 2 and iPhone 4s a lot lately.

Toshiba satellite pro C50-A Windows 8.1 with a Intel CORE I3 processer also my mum is good with computers I mean really good she used to do programming back in the day.

I use one that I built. Asus mobo, Intel i5 quad core cpu, 3.4ghz, semi-crappy msi video card (I was on a budget), wireless mouse & keyboard by logitech, all hooked up to my 40" flat screen via an hdmi cable. Besides that I use my lenovo laptops (ideapad y560 & y50 4k. One for everyday use like school, work, Netflix, whatever. I use the other laptop for gaming.

It's so neat that some of you have built your own computers. I've looked into it a bit and it seems like a cheaper alternative. Not sure if I'm that much of a techie though :P
I use my husbands asus laptop for this forum and online banking. Most I use my iPad or cell phone though, it's easier to read blogs on and check emails.

Seriously- I wasn't either when I first started. ;)

At the beginning I just made sure I had one computer I could use, and the other to build.

At the moment, the Macbook Early 2008 while I have the Asus X102BA for when I'm on the go and Compaq Presario cq60 for when I'm gaming (which at the moment, that computer has failed on me miserably).

I have a Thinkpad W530. I upgraded the RAM to 32GM and installed a 2TB hard drive into it. I use Linux on it.
