What do you think of when you hear the word religion?

Do you think of organised religion?
Or like obviously there are different denominations of religion like catholic, protestants, muslim etc
When I think of religion I think of traditions in religion and worship of a higher power God so I do not think it is wrong.
Some people may prefer to call it faith and I like to call it that as well but I am fine to call it religion as well because it reminds me or church and church worship and traditions in the faith.
But I know religion makes people think of rigid rules which is so bogus to me. It should not be rigid and repressive. And a higher power should be your best friend not an evil entity that hides things and betrays you for who you are.

"Religion is a set of organized beliefs, practices, and systems that most often relate to the belief and worship of a controlling force, such as a personal god or another supernatural being.

Religion often involves cultural beliefs, worldviews, texts, prophecies, revelations, and morals that have spiritual meaning to members of the particular faith, and it can encompass a range of practices, including sermons, rituals, prayer, meditation, holy places, symbols, trances, and feasts.

While this is a basic definition, there are many different understandings of what religion is. Not all religions are centered on a belief in a god, gods, or supernatural forces."

Temples, churches, mosques. Gods and deities. Worship. Sacred scripts - Bible, Torah, Quran. Superstitions and beliefs. Faith. Priests, imams, rabbis and prophets. Sects and cults. Conflict, terrorism, sacrifice, martyr, suicide bomber.

I'm most familiar with Judaism, so Judaism is usually what comes to mind first, even though I don't think of it as strictly a religion. Otherwise, I mostly think of prayer, study... I wouldn't associate all these negative connotations like terrorism or bigotry with religion, but rather extremism generally.

A variety of words come to mind when I think of the word: Religion

I concede that humanity wouldn't be as advanced as it is now without Catholicism. There was an age when the ONLY means/vehicle to educating people were the monasteries. That was long before to Great Schism, so Western Civilization literally was advanced almost solely by way of the Roman Catholic Church.

I also concede that in present times people can often (certainly not always or all people) find and gain positive benefit from being part of a community of people they find at the church they belong to.

However, apart from that all the other words that come to mind for me are very negative related to Religion. It's understandable for people that grew up in a religious cult like I did and needed to undergo Religious Trauma therapy like I did to finally be able to live a post-trauma life. I don't focus on what I've lost from all of those years even though I certainly could; I focus on the freedom, serenity, self-acceptance, acceptance of others and enjoying being present in the moments of the remainder of my life that I do now. Religion can have some positive aspects, however it can also be downright horrible; I avoid people who refuse to accept that it can be both.

Nothing really

As stated before, I do not follow any particular religion. I do, however, respect other people's religious beliefs and if someone asks me nicely to join certain religions I just politely say no and go on with my day. If they insist I just keep saying no.

Spiritual people see our similarities. Religious people see our differences. Some people in religions advance spiritually, and some fall majorly, but on average, religions are for people who know they should be better, but don't really want to change, just feel better about themselves.

I try not to think about it unless it is thrust in my face, as I see it as an excuse or motivator for some of the worst atrocities in human history. That is just a personal view and I bear no animosity toward anyone who truly believes.

I have had terrible experiences with organized religion for the most part, particularly Christianity, and I agree that organized religion has caused some of the most heinous acts and atrocities the world has ever seen.

When I tend to think of “religion,” my mind usually goes to “bigotry” and “cultism.” But I keep that view to myself.
I don’t personally care what other people choose to believe though as long as they don’t hatefully shove it down my throat, or use it as an excuse to be unkind or hateful. Otherwise it’s none of my business and I would never intentionally interfere with anyone’s beliefs.

My loose ties to Christianity would be best described as more spiritual, and I believe firmly in being kind. I belong to a Unitarian church which is religiously all-encompassing, and accepting of all walks of life. That’s the way it should be, in my opinion. I think the idea of compassion that Jesus stood for has been lost on a lot of present-day Christians.

I find modern Judaism to be a largely peaceful and accepting religion as well and I have attended some services with my friends.

I have an excellent idea! Let's worship Púcas (think I spelled that right), like this guy...

I think the world would be a much better place if we all had a 6 foot tall invisible rabbit to keep us company :-)
