What is it I am missing

I guess either science has not yet ventured to figure out why AS don't "see" things or experience things as others do. It could be that our brains are different, maybe our eyes are different in some very subtle way. Do any of you remember being "hit" by other kids? I recall more than once people getting frustrated with me and striking me. Also I was a very good looking kid and there was the combination of jealousy, but as some also described it, a face of an angel. Sort of vacant but angelic.....above it all. I have been called imperious. I have no idea why. Inside I am afraid, usually, not feeling connected to anything, lost.

Hi Bobbi and welcome...
I was "hit" by lots more than kids... If I was to be able to go back I would gladly take anything the kids might dish out...

I don't know what it is? The blank stare... The not knowing what to say, or in my case saying nothing no matter what was happening. The fidgeting, the sitting looking off at the moon in broad daylight, watching the wind, who knows what else... They pick up on our weirdness real quick.

Once they sense there is something "different"... It don't seem to matter if its kids, teachers, or family... If the climate is already abusive, it seems to just escalate from there until people come in asking questions... Sometimes it slows some of it down, until they think they can once more take every frustration they ever had in life out on people like us...

Science may have the answers but it might have to classify a lot of people with some things way worse than ASD... And thats not likely going to happen on a large scale. : )
