What To Pack In My Overnight Bag

Grumpy Cat

Well-Known Member
I'm not used to sleeping out of my own bed so packing an overnight bag is not "normal" for me. Wondering if I'm missing anything. Input from anyone?

My List: Uniform, socks, undies, shampoo, deodorant, Silk hair stuff, hair dryer, brush, hair flattener, HAIR SPRAY (yes I need all the hair things - I can't look like I slept somewhere else), face soap, body gel, my loofah, body lotion, body spritz (yes I need all of those things too), jammies and sleep socks (I can't sleep with cold feet), (work has wash rags, towels, toothbrush and toothpaste), liquid makeup, face powder, makeup brushes, blush, eyeliner, eyebrow powder, DEFINITELY MY TASTERS CHOICE INSTANT COFFEE, my Chef Boyardee canned substance (several cans cause the last time work did not provide any food), OMG! I almost forgot - MY ALARM CLOCK!!!!,
Benadryl to help me sleep,...........

No, I'm not bringing the kitchen sink.

Is this a sleepover? Idk what U need to pack, so how am I to know what u still need to pack?

I'm packing an overnight bag for work at the hospital. I'll be working Sat night and will have to stay there Sun and work Sun night. The weather is expected to be bad. I may have to sleep there Mon as well - God I hope not.

Sounds like plenty to me :) maybe some extra snacks & drinks if any aren't provided? & possibly a book/iPad/etc to keep you occupied if you end up staying there longer & not having to be working the whole time? My last job even recommended we bring books because we had to be present all day yet not necessarily needed the whole time.

Thanks Becky. I can always use new ideas. Last time I watched TV cause I'm usually too anxious having to sleep somewhere else (especially at work) to focus on reading anything. Anything else you can think of I'd appreciate hearing.

I know it's a bit sad, but I like to make a list of things to ensure I don't forget things, haha. My list typically looks like this:

CLOTHING
- Clothes for X number of days, plus two extra sets, just in case
- Clothes for special occasions, if applicable
- Clothes for sleeping
- Swim suit, if applicable
- Underwear and socks for X days, plus spares just in case
- Good pair of shoes, Casual pair of shoes, and sandals
- Jumpers/ Jackets, if cold

ELECTRICAL
- Phone charger
- iPad charger, if applicable
- Hair dryer/ Hair straightener, as required
- Adapters, if travelling to another country

TOILETRIES
- tooth brush
- tooth paste
- Facial products
- Soaps and shampoos, as required
- Deodorant
- Loofah
- Hair products
- Hair clips/ ties
- Toilet paper, if required (you'd be surprised sometimes)
- Feminine hygiene
- Make up, if needed
- Nail polish & remover, with cotton pads, if needed
- Brush

OTHER
- Plastic bags, for rubbish, or dirty laundry
- Day bag/s, so you have a bag, but don't have to lug everything else around
- Hat/ sunglasses
- Something to entertain me, if there's a long travel time
- Nail clippers (nothing worse than chipping your nails on holidays)
- Bath/ Beach towel, as needed
- Bottled water
- Food, if needed
- Music/ music device, and headphones

I think that's it :P

Vanilla! We must be related cause we seem to think alike. Great list!!!
I never thought about the nail clippers. I would say don't forget a clock with an alarm, but your phone may have that. Thanks!

I have a bag that contains the things most important to me: a certain book, my kindle, my purse (yeah, I keep it inside the bag, w driver's licence, debit card, etc), a cellphone sunblock, sanitary napkins (a necessity of life.) I carry this everywhere. Everywhere.

Oh yeah, I have found myself grateful for having included toilet paper in my backpack. (i often have a backpack too. That has some medicines, a hat, paperwork that I needed for my past job, sometimes an Italian textbook...)

Thanks Ste11aeres! I'm missing the toilet paper but the hospital should have that - or I'll borrow some from a patients room. (I didn't just say that.) I like to "borrow" things a lot - gum, toilet paper. Thing is I can't really give those back after I'm done with them, can I?

Yeah, I used to bring an alarm clock; still have it in my drawer, but haven't needed it since my first smart phone :D

You should see my list when I'm planning to actually go overseas :P

Sounds good, I always over pack and then have to always tell myself that I'm not going to a 3rd world country...

Yeah, I'll tell you what though. Here in Australia, hotels provide hair dryers as a standard; like shampoos, and various other things. Usually it's built on to a wall, like a telephone. My mum wanted to have Christmas in a hotel last year, so we went down to the coast and stayed for a few days, and they didn't provide one...and I didn't bring one...as I had assumed they would :p

This wasn't a cheap hotel either; they boasted exceptional standards, and I actually expected a lot more; they fell short in a number of different areas too though, but that's another story.

What bugs me is when they don't have a coffee maker, I can't do anything until I've had coffee in the morning.

Haha, yeah, I imagine packing one of those with you would make you appear a little crazy too :P
Actually, I just bought a HandPresso, a portable espresso thingy that takes pre-measured pods. You pump it by hand and it's really small!

Oh really? Wow, I didn't know they made travel-friendly coffee makers like that. Learn something new everyday :)

Maybe a magazine or book or music.
