What's your most detested piece of non-entertainment software?

Nothing game or entertainment.

My list could go on and on, but the top 3;


Microsoft Windows 10, 8, Vista, XP, 3.11, Millenium. (anything but 7 really). Never has corporate greed and arrogance been so richly rewarded.

Apple OSx. I know it's "different", but it's just a stolen and dumbed down Linux with everything dangerous hidden from the drooling masses who might break the prettyness.

Adobe - almost anything. OK, they are the best, but it's just so hard to use anything they make, and conventions from one don't flow into the next. I've never been close to even liking anything Adobe.


Anything made by Symantec, Norton, Godaddy, Yahoo, and probably countless others.

Also anything Telstra have ever made, modified, sold as their own, looked at selling, or thought about.

Telstra are the biggest telco in australia.

I bought a telstra TV, which Is a Rocku box. Telstra only allow 10 apps on it, so they can charge for pay TV, and blog free access.

I work and have worked with a number of document management systems whose scope is meant to be central to the entire company and the way they handle their paperwork. I swear to God, every single one of them is a million dollar piece of crap. I probably shouldn't name names, not that anyone would recognize them, but seriously - going paperless is an absolute nightmare that comes in many different flavors.

"Oh hey, this feature sort of works, but not all the time."
Corporate: "Sounds excellent, lets use that! We'll solve the problem by ignoring it and assuming the autistic guy is magic."
Me: "It really doesn't work the way the salesman for the company pitched it to you."
Corporate: "Well, we're gonna need you to be flexible on this one. We have faith in you that you can get it done."

The absolute first worst/best thing I've ever worked with was the word processing system Word Star, it came with a bible sized manual. By the time I worked through all the bugs and annoyances in the mail merge system, it was losing ground to Word Perfect and Microsoft word. All of which I taught myself to use.

Still find myself attempting to do things that I did in Word Star, that I cannot do in Microsoft word. It took about a year to become conversant in Word Star, and understand it's capabilities. An extremely complex/extensive bit of software, that eventually made me brave enough to tackle Auto Cad and Micro Station. So even though I hated using it for some time, it gave me many of the skills I needed later on to tackle/learn other types of software.

Just about any software that keeps feeding you pop-ups bugging you to upgrade/purchase, or constantly inform you of 'special offers', etc. The free version of AVG is particularly bad for this. Also, don't like Norton.

Chrome OS in general.

Can't do anything with it hardly, can't download much if anything except specific Chrome apps from the Web Store.

Anything on the Iphone, I used to love ITunes, for downloading old episodes of Children's TV shows, and songs and stuff, but Iphones in general? Crap battery life, needs charging up every day, if you're making calls all day and using other apps, you're lucky if it lasts a full 24 hours.
