Who else has pet rats?

Anyone else here have pet rats? I currently have 4 girls. I can't imagine not having rats around tbh. I love all animals but rats have a special place in my heart. Post pictures if you have rats!

I'll try adding a couple of pictures. All 4 of them are stuffed in that hamster ball together lmao, but Cheveyo is hidden behind Meadow. Second picture is Junie and Cheveyo snuggling together like precious wittle angels.

Cute! I've never had pet rats but I've always thought they were cool. I've had guinea pigs and gerbils.

I saw a programme where this couple had beloved pet rats, and when one of them had back pain or something, the rats would come and lie on their backs, exactly where the pain was. Rats are beautiful little animals and an untapped resource for the soul! A shame they have such bad press on this planet.

I know! They are so sweet and gentle, and so intelligent. You can even train them to come to their name and to fetch things (youtube videos!). They're the smartest little angels!

You're making me want some, the main problem is I have a cat which is not exactly the most compatible for obvious reasons so I'd have to very carefully keep them separated at all times. It is possible for a cat and rats to get along, but it's more difficult when they haven't been brought up together and things could obviously go terribly wrong as the cat has to override it's basic instinct in order not to attack.

I agree. I think we get out of animals what we put into them (as with children, much of the time - there are exceptions). My view does contain some idealisation of animals (rats) but I think this is only a reaction to animals on the whole having such a raw deal on this planet and being so misrepresented and underestimated. It is such an honour to share the planet with them, yet how hellish it must be for most of them - at the mercy of this rampant, voracious, callous, unconscious, and often brutal and mindless species.

I've been keeping pet rats for a long time. I'm currently without any because it breaks my heart when they cross the rainbow bridge
