Xbox 360 game suitable for ages 6 to 9?

Topic.

I know about the Lego games, and Minecraft, but is there anything else suitable? My 6 year old Niece likes dancing, so if I could get a Kinect sensor she might be good at the dancing games, could that be an option? I don't wanna spend a lot of money though if I can help it.

In terms of dancing games for the 360, there's Just Dance and Dance Central. I have no idea which is better, as I don't play them. There were also a couple of Dance Dance Revolution games, but they require a dance mat peripheral rather than the Kinect. There's also Epic Mickey 2, which is highly rated by my 7 year old niece. Kinectimals is also on option if they did have a Kinect.

Epic Mickey 2 is downloadable, and I don't think it's too expensive.

I'll tell my Brother to have a look on eBay for the dance mat stuff, our Lauren might be up for it.

Viva Piñata games...
Sonic games
Rayman

Umm yeah there aren't too many family friendly games in Xbox... They just don't sell well on Xbox or PlayStation

I don't agree. There are plenty, but most people without kids just don't know about them, because they are unlikely to play them. I found this link, although I don't agree with gendering games. Girls and boys can play whatever games they want.

There are exponentially less family friendly titles on Xbox and PlayStation than on Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Android, Nintendo, and that retro Atari system.

If you are willing to pay up to see the sales data that NPD (NA) and Eurotracker (EU), you will see how badly everything that isn't a Shooter, Sports, or AAA Blockbuster game sells on those two platforms.

I'm not saying that there aren't family friend titles, but there aren't many due to the user base for Xbox and PlayStation in the West (their bread and butter are 15-35 males, who like the three genres of games I listed above).

This is why Xbox One and PS4 have a massive lack of quality family friendly titles and family friend titles as a whole.

Ironically in the West, Nintendo Switch is being criticized for having too many family friendly titles at the expense of "real" games!

So yeah quality family friendly titles even on Xbox 360 are hard to find, especially now at retail!

Yes, there are less family friendly titles on PS4 and Xbox compared to other consoles/PC but I'd still disagree with saying there aren't that many. Yeah they don't sell as well as your COD's and FIFA's. but they are out there. I would never have thought to include most racing games under the title of 'family friendly' until I saw that list. Most have little to no bad language and no gore so they're safe to be played by kids. Then again, it would seem that there is a growing number of parents these days who are perfectly happy to allow their kids to play things like COD...even online o_O

I suppose kids always want to do what their friends are doing too, and play the hot new game...despite the age ratings, and parents find it easier to give in than say no and listen to moaning.

Well I've scoured eBay, and the Dance Dance Revolution games on the 360 are going for a ton, the last gen versions.

So retro games DO still sell well.

More like the publishers do limited runs, when they think games will have low sales.

DDR is a perfect example of that.

Actually it goes like this:

Western gaming companies and many Japanese gaming companies are so focused on selling to 15 to 35 western males, they don't want to expend the resources to create a family friend game that has the potential to damage them in the eyes of their main demographic.
Never underestimate the damage you will receive in the Western markets when "real" gamers see you making kiddie games.

Also retailers will order the games that market data shows will sell on a given system.
In the case of Xbox and PlayStation, family friendly titles sell that low that they have massively lower profit margins for retailers. So retailers try to avoid stocking them.
That's why they order tons of FIFA, COD and the like for Xbox and PlayStation.
They would have to rapidly liquidate the family friendly titles on those systems to get them out of inventory (it costs a lot to hold on to inventory)
FIFA, COD and the like will sell millions at full price and those buyers will buy other stuff too.

Lastly the Western gaming companies market their M-rated games heavily at children, parents and teens.

This is why PS4 and Xbox One have a dearth of family friendly titles.

There is literally very little money for Sony and Microsoft to encourage family friendly stuff on their system.
It's just not worth it and the backlash from the "real" gamers.

DDR is a perfect example of that.

Plus to be honest, the dance mats don't have the longest of lives so that leads to less of them available too.

I had to look at List of Xbox 360 games - Wikipedia to see what the system has. I havent ever owned a Xbox.

Perhaps try a sports game if she likes any? Other games (not mentioned earlier I don't think)- Angry Birds Trilogy and perhaps a movie-based game based on some animated movie she liked?

I want to point out- not sure why we need to be comparing Xbox to other consoles in this topic. Topic maker asked what games to get for Xbox 360.. not the other ones. Not trying to sound rude, it just feels like people will turn anything into a console war or a comparision, which was NOT the point of the topic at all!

I am fully aware that Nitro will shout at me for this, but can we stop with the Sony zealots and the Xbox bashing please? I did this thread to help my Brother get games for his kids.

Do you see?

Nobody bashed the Xbox though. @Xenocity and I had a discussion about how companies decide on what genres to push on what consoles and how there's less call for family friendly games on both Xbox and PS4.

Is it backwards compatible for the original xbox games? I'd so it could give you more options.

I'm thinking of getting the Xbox minecraft bundle this xmas for my son and have been wondering about their ability to play the games from previous xbox systems.

No, the 360 is not backward compatible, it used to be when it first came out and there wasn't many 360 games available, but I don't think it is now.

Check the forums on Xbox.com for your answers.

This link (Play Original Xbox Games on Xbox 360) has a list of original Xbox games you can (supposedly) play on the 360. To be honest, I don't know why anyone would want to play original Xbox games these days, because they'll look awful. Also, I did try to play Fable: The Lost Chapters on my 360 and it played so badly. It had horrendous frame rate issues and was essentially unplayable. I don't know how well some of the others on the list would play, but there are some which have been remastered and re-released, so they'd probably be better. Now that the Xbox One exists though, you'll find that original Xbox games are remastered for that instead of the 360 (Voodoo Vince was an original Xbox game, and the remaster came out a few weeks ago for Xbox One.)

Minecraft is FANTASTIC! If you were to get an Xbox One, there are more and more Xbox 360 games that are backwards compatible on top of the Xbox One games that have already come out. If you were to get an Xbox 360, there are still loads of games that came out on it and also downloadable games too (better selection than the Xbox One has currently.)

EDIT: Forgot to add the link :p

It would probably be the Xbox 1, that bundle I was checking out at Toys r us was 300$ and they also play movies and have some kind of Internet capability also, correct? Netflix, Amazon, Hulu? Which that bundle with the Netflix, amazon, youtube, minecraft, DVD player would be perfect.

I would suggest the Xbox One over the 360, just because it's the most up to date Xbox. Yeah, it can play DVD's and Blu-Ray, you can use the browser to get online (don't, being made by Microsoft, it uses the Edge browser (formerly known as Internet Explorer) and it's bloody awful). If you have subscriptions to things like Hulu and Netflix, you can download the apps for them on it, along with a host of other apps (both free to use ones, and others you need subscriptions for like WWE Network and the like).
