Your Care Bears Memories

What are your favourite memories of the Care Bears? Those lovable little bundles of joy have been bringing joy to kids and parents for years, but for you, what do the Care Bears mean to you?

This is actually one of those things I was like, really into as a kid, but somehow managed to mostly forget about.

I had a lot of toys/figures related to them, like these oddly high quality things that apparently go for a lot of money these days.

One strong memory I have about them is like... I dont remember the title but it was an animated movie, and like there's this villain that turns into stuff, and a big fight near the end where he turns into like this messed up cloud of hate and starts throwing red lightning everywhere. That particular bit has stuck with me.

I was born in '81, and media for kids and such back then was very, very different from what it is now. That movie sure wasnt the only time some eldritch horror showed up in what was otherwise a super happy friendly franchise.

I loved that sort of thing though. I was also really into Ghostbusters for the same reason.

And then of course I also had a big Care Bears stuffed doll or whatever you might call it. Had a lot of huggable stuff back then.

It all really was something special for so many reasons.

I remember seeing them in the toy department at the local store but don't know much past what they are called and what they looked like. They look unrealistic in my opinion. I preferred plush animals that resembled real animals better for the most part.

They were so popular that even without children, I became vaguely aware of their existence, mostly from being referenced.

Just the little figurines, I loved them :) The small non-poseable ones. I seem to remember other animals than bears belonging in the series as well, think I had a penguin or some other type of bird? It's vague, I think I moved on to Ewoks after them :p

I grew up with The Care Bears. Yesterday I got two Care Bear plushies that are crossed with famous monsters: Grumpy bear as Frankenstein's Monster and Cheer Bear as his Bride. They're scarily adorable. I'm planning to get Tenderheart as Dracula soon.

The non-bear species of Care Bears are the Care Bear Cousins. The penguin was named Cozy Heart.

Thanks :) I found the mini figure from the 80s for it, but it doesn't scream 'yes' to me. So it was probably some other character. Will try to find an online catalog for the figures, I'm confident I will instantly recognize it once I see it.

I remember the care bares being there on the stairs while I sat in a chair watching Ric Flair roast the heck out of cher then I got scared when some lady named Blair just stood outside and stared then she walked away and I didn't care because she had terrible hair

Nice! Missed opportunity to name them Scare Bears :P
When I was a kid I once drew a comic about two guys who go to an old house, it's haunted by bear ghosts called the Scare Bears. But they were not very cute nor cuddly, I actually drew them pretty creepy, and they spend the night comically torturing the two guys until they escape and run away. The Scare Bears tried to go after them, but the sun had come up and the bears hated it. One of them said, "Just seeing the sun makes me want to LIVE!", or something like that.
