I likely won't be doing many blog entries in general but at the moment I'm feeling irate and need to vent. And unfortunately it's at this forum itself and some of the rules that I feel do more harm than good.
Like the zero "bad language" rule. First off bad language is relative to the person using it. It serves a perfectly valid function. And there are some of us myself included where swearing is part of stimming and regulation. Yet this board has zero tolerance. Are we not adults? Should the onus not be on the individual to have a profanity filter if they don't want to see such words? Whole sale elimination of any use of "bad language" is essentially telling some of us "You have no choice but to mask here". You have no choice but to not be yourself, you have no choice but to never be allowed to fully articulate yourself in the way you feel most comfortable with.
The second thing I'm having issues with today is the Zero Politics stance. And I get that politics are a heated topic. But when someone posts simply that they are grateful that their own election is done an over with. Without mentioning parties or ideologies. And that comment gets deleted. That's unacceptable. It's childish. And again it's curtailing our ability to express ourselves and communicate. Don't like what you see written? Be an adult and continue scrolling.
The internet is a big place and treating people on this board like children is not helping them. If anything it is giving them a very very false sense of security and not allowing them to deal with the fact they will read things they don't agree with online and will have to learn to move along.
I'm going to take a few days away from here and seriously consider if I want to bother coming back. I love the folks here that I've gotten to know over the last several months, but this childish overprotective stance by admin is something I'm not sure I can abide by. If anything it just gives me the spark I need to set up my own alternative forum. A place where autistic adults can have adult conversations and not be treated like they are children in need of being sheltered.
Now I will be genuinely surprised if the admin doesn't go ahead and delete this post. Because above all else it seems you can't question policy around here. But I've saved a copy for my own records.
