I went back to it.
Does USA and countries like that have libraries?
If you go is there still comfortable reading corners.
I still love hardcover books and it is so relaxing and comforting to me.
Do you read on a screen all the time or still read books.
I could not stand reading on a screen.
 
I have had a very high percentage of librarians as friends, and two of them helped me find a place here. However, I got my education from the library in another province, and I could not have done it here. I still occasionally borrow a book. Most recently, I inquired about one I want to loan to a friend, having given away two copies already.
Lately, I've been reading books before sleeping. I find it hard to focus on reading with the 'net offering a million distractions.
North American libraries are now havens for the homeless and otherwise ill-connected.
 
Archive.org is mostly my library these days, but if I get lucky and find a book on sale (I mostly only read textbooks), I'll pick it up at a thrift shop or online counterpart.

Unfortunately, physical textbooks can be pretty expensive (even the really old ones), so mostly I just have to read digitally. It's also nice when a Humble Bundle has useful books in it, because they support charities.
 
If I were in my own country, I am sure I would go to a library.

I do have many books, but have not read in years, due to technology overtaking. I have felt regret and not at the same time.
 
I actually have to make a trip to the local library today to return a book, now that you mention it.

I very frequently reread the same series over and over, so Kindle is cheaper and significantly more portable than physical books.

But I’m also a fan of the Libby app, which connects to your library card and lets you borrow ebooks. My bookworm best friend introduced me to it and we swapped card numbers so we can use both of our town’s libraries for MOAAR BOOKS

I agree with you regarding reading from screens, I much prefer to hold onto something. I'm the person who will print an article before reading it. I like the ability to take a yellow highlighter to it. Give me a physical book and a bookmark. I love the tactile experience of something I can turn pages, feel and smell the paper, etc.
 
I check out online books from our county library system and have checked out a few kid books for my son. We just had a new library built last year and I love it.. they have fun and educational events for kids, a kids play area, outdoor picnic areas, and it connects to a walking trail from a nearby wetlands park. I also like that you can check out equipment like tools and electronics just like you can with books.

For me, the biggest problem when it comes to reading from screens is the backlighting, and non-portability. I also print out scientific papers, which I haven't seen other people in the lab do.

However, I'm not wedded to paper books, so Kindle also works fine. Nowadays I definitely read more paper books, but I have gone through phases when Kindle has been very useful. Especially when travelling.
 
I go to the library every few weeks, I borrow books and DVDs from mine.

Actually just went yesterday but not to check anything out, I just walked there and went in there to rest for a bit cause I was understandably tired after having walked for about 3 miles to the library.

Gotta go next week to return some books that are due, then I'm gonna check out some more books. My local branch isn't humongous though (it's in a shopping center so it's kind of limited in size) but if I need something my branch doesn't have but another branch has, I can just put it on hold and they'll send it over to my library (and if it's something my entire county library doesn't have, I can do an ILL instead, which obviously takes longer but still).

I got a cool pin from my library recently that says 'I read banned books'. It's neat.

Now that I think of it, I haven't actually checked out a library book since 1997. And haven't been in a library since 2007.

Ironically though I have always appreciated books relative to computer software rather than having to read an instructional CD or website. That way I can use a book holder to keep a book open on a specific page while looking at a computer monitor at the same time.
 
I walked to the library a few weeks ago, few magazines' newspapers very few books, joked with wife my personal library bigger. I still occasionally buy books. and magazines for reading when using my stationary bike during inclement weather.
 
My wife and I used to love the library and took our kids there every week. But now, our local library has hardly any books in it anymore.
Now it's full of homeless men looking at porn on the computers. And librarians who get mad at parents for complaining about homeless men viewing hardcore porn next to children.
 
I definitely like libraries. They’re the best place to get books. I haven’t really borrowed any books from the library lately because I’m so busy and I don’t have enough time to sit down and read. There’s also the added pressure of having to finish a book before it needs to be returned.

I have always utilized libraries, checking out books and just enjoying the quite serenity.

There are several great libraries near where I live.
 
I adore the library.

especially love digging for the old classic novels as well as finding old non fiction books describing science, paleolithic skills, as well as culture and geography.
