Kai and the Immortals

Hey guys this is about one of my ongoing stories I am writing.

However since we have a english speaking audience, I think this is the topic to make on a Fantasy story with a heavy chinese background.

I want to make sure my points are understood by English speakers. Also the highlight is that the characters are accurately portrayed people with Aspergers, Autism and ADHD unlike Percy Jackson.

Synopsis coming soon

Sure but I must make sure the english speaking audience understand it... This is due to the amount of chinese elements used. It will be heavily Chinese. I think our friend Zach will love this too.

Synopsis

It's the year 2010, and ancient Chinese gods far more ancient than the Jade Emperor have walked out of the pages of bamboo scrolls and into the life of 14 year old autistic Sheng Kai. After being rescued from a Chinese demon, Kai is escorted to the Wu Xing Temple. There protected by benevolent Chinese Dragons, Kai learns of his parentage between a human father and the powerful female immortal guardian, Xuan Wu. So he learns that sensory issues and disability are actually his gifts as he learns to interact with others like him.

But Kai is soon caught between the battle between the gods of Nature and the human Immortals as climate change takes the planet by storm.

Actually in another point of view the reason why the Guardian beasts of Nature and the human gods are at loggerheads is very similar to the conflict between Aspie and NT. One side was forced to comply and the other want things their way.

Ok the Humans gods are based on legendary or historical people from Chinese history. These people existed far back before even the Jade Emperor or Laozi.

In chinese culture, the human gods were consider among the 3 Emperors and 5 Kings. "三皇五帝"
From a human standpoint, these people were morally upright pioneers.

However from a Nature guardian point of view, they were considered as lifeforms with big impact on the environment.

The Nature Guardians are the 5 beasts of cardinal direction, they are also mentioned in Japanese culture except that the 5th one is not used. Each beast regulates the elemental cycle of a certain element on Earth.

For Example: Xuan Wu, Kai's biological mum, is in charge of water. She regulates the hydrological cycle or rainfall, snow, ocean, the water aspect of weather patterns, flooding, rivers.etc. According to her, some water based natural disasters like flooding and even hurricanes are necessary for the recycling of nutrients and its part of the cycle of life.

Although designated "emperors", the human gods here were only people with great contributions. Like the discovery of the use of fire, farming.etc

This also meant that each of these human gods later got the Guardian beasts like under their control. Something which the Guardian Beasts know it's wrong. However one by one over time as Mankind's technology= mastery of an element, the beasts were eventually imprisoned.

However, sometimes they would escape from the Heavenly Palace to regulate a part of the Earth's elements only to be captured back time to time. And this regulation would mean natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina, the 2004 Tsunami, Haidi and Szechuan Earthquakes. Apparently, natural disasters are the Guardians' way of recycling certain elements into the environment and now also to regulate lifeform populations.

I've always been interested in East Asian culture, so this thread is a real treat for me. Thank you for sharing all of this, Tigris. :)

Now the big issue is portraying Autism, Aspergers and ADHD in a way that is accurate to real life. The media has often times underplayed or stereotyped us to the point where it seems too far from the reality of having to live with such a condition or gift.

So the main character is Lee Sheng Kai or Kai. He has autism. My feelings and encounters maybe not be exactly accurate as I have very little of sensory issues unlike some of you and animals in human environments.

I welcome any one here to share your autism experience. Better if we can have females too as there are girls on the spectrum in the story.

Also part of the experiences will help in design the facility of Wu Xing Temple which is said to be AU friendly and will not cause sensory overloads in the children.

1. Fans do not make a lot of noise. They are using newly designed fans that dun have blades and its very quiet.
2. <need advice> Lights do not flicker like a disco light and drive animals, and dragons crazy.
3. Pipes and water supply are checked carefully and are made from stainless steel. not copper, lead or potentially toxic heavy metals.
4. Wheat products are not allowed and cow's milk products are strictly off limits since chinese dragons are allergic to cow's milk like some Asian people.
5. anything else you guys can suggest?

One more thing: A large piece of grassy land for children to play around, in a natural setting. :)

This calms us too.

Yeah there is a field of grass..

But there are also forests... I wonder if that's okay for Aspies... but there are dragons in the forests doing the patrol.

Chinese Dragons will not eat humans...

Just to add, actually all humans in the story or more accurately Han Chinese people have dragon blood. Becos After Shennong's death, Hwang Long, the yellow dragon came to Earth and became the Yellow Emperor.

So that's why the chinese claim that they are descendants of the dragon.

Also Shennong now one of the human gods, has another name Yan Di, 炎帝. His people interbred with the Yellow Emperor's people. So Chinese also say that they are descendants of Yan and Huang. 炎黃子孫.

Since dragons and some of the animal spirits in Wu Xing Temple are casein intolerant, Wu Xing Temple will not be using cattle as a source of milk or meat.

The animals reared here are goats, chickens which some of them will be released into the wild for Dragons to hunt them and also for the kids to train their hand eye coordination with the spear, repeating crossbow.

Yes the kids here have rice and plant food but they have to some how hunt for their meat to fill the fridge. This can help to harness their senses into something good.

Wow, I'm really looking forward to seeing this. If there weren't people who were obsessed with work, some stuff would never get done.

The principal implement this scheme for older teens as a PE or physical exercise. Not just for Aspies to improve their gross motor skills but also to help them learn to share.

Besides he noted that the dragon constables are getting fat on the flanks... not good. ^^

To Kempy, thanks for your support.

I will be working on developing the character relationships. The Five Nature Immortals and the Human Immortals are at war.

Each technological advancement of Man meant that the Nature God of a coresponding element eventually gets imprisoned like under control.

However like mankind, the human Immortals do not know environmentalism and the Nature Immortal Beasts soon proved that Man must learn to respect Nature or face the consequences.

In the storyline, Kai's biological mum is the Immortal Beast of the Water, Xuan Wu aka Black Terrapin. She was supposing imprisoned by Yu the Great who late became the Human God of Water but then the Giant Rod that was imprisoning her was stolen by a monkey god [you know who^^] in the Tang Dynasty and the turtle escaped. Xuan Wu continues to do her duty, to recycle water for sustainable life for all lifeforms and this will mean driving storms and floods.

Since Zhu Que the Immortal Beast of Fire and Energy is still imprisoned. Xuan Wu is having a hard time trying to control the damage caused by climate change. For example, Hurricane Katrina and the recent typhoons in Taiwan she tried her best to contain those but she could do little to reduce the damage.

Also the collapse of coral reefs and ecosystems, she need Qing Long the Immortal Beast of Wood and Nature to help reduce the CO2 and stop the tide of invasive animals on ecosystems.

So she's trying to do her job and escape the Human Immortals attacks but she's worried for Kai, her only biological son she has ever had in the past 2-3 millenniums.

This story will take place in Singapore mostly. So the reader will get to experience our multi-cultural society and also unfortunately its apathy of our society to the plight of adult gifted people.

Our characters will conquer fears by first living in the Wu Xing Temple and learn to adapt to the normal human society amidst climate change. They will face fearsome enemies like the human Immortals which in history were in fact cultural heroes that most Chinese people respect. The characters and Readers never expected to view them as enemies of Nature.
