    Grammar Nazis?

There's a TED talk about that which was helpful to me. The presenter was actually explaining how texting is really more like speaking than writing and has its own structure. He specifically talks about LOL and how some words/acronyms/symbols have come to mean something other than their literal...

The (official?) AS online social support for mainly concrete endeavours . . . thread.

This is where my perfectionism kicks in because I have a list a mile long of things I *should* be tackling. But my most immediate need is to push past the depression and get my apartment cleaned for my son's birthday party on Saturday. I feel pretty stupid that this even has to be a goal...

Therapy and what you got out of it

I have been in and out of therapy over the years. My current therapist is very helpful to me. One of the things I do is figure out what I want to work on in my life and focus on how to accomplish that, so she helps me with figuring that out. She can also give me feedback when I am confused by...

    Aspie Parent

Glad you are here - I can relate to being an Aspie parent of an autistic child, as well as dealing with depression and anxiety besides. Just like anything in life, there are good parts and bad parts; one of the good parts is that I often understand where my son is coming from better than a lot...

New & looking for people that understand

Another PA person here, although I'm from the "big city" of Harrisburg, lol! Sorry to hear how alone you have been feeling; I know how easy it is to feel that way and am really glad you reached out here! The world is definitely bigger and more accepting that your little town so be encouraged...

Kind of new, not really posted

Sounds like a very difficult situation. Unfortunately, marriage only works if both people are willing to work at it, and it sounds like he is not at that place right now. My divorce was just final a few months ago after 20 years together, so I know how tough it is to go through that. It's...

    Introduction

I love this - thanks for posting it! I have been really pushing myself to work on face to face friendships, and that has been a great thing for me, but I sometimes miss the bigger community aspect that you describe.

    Introduction

Sorry to be offsite for so long! I read a fairly wide variety of fiction, including literary fiction, Christian fiction, some science fiction and fantasy, a few gritty detective novels, and the occasional romance novel. In nonfiction, I tend to stick to autism related, self help, and...

Nice! I am a sucker for an interesting book blurb. I am down to two bookcases now and mainly stick to the library or my Kindle to save on space these days!

    Aspie/autistic girlfriend?

I can't really answer your question because I am the Aspie and a girl, so I don't know what it's like to date me. But I can say that any relationship takes a lot of focus and energy to succeed, no matter whom it is with. I actually just read a great novel about a guy who was determined to...

Aspergers guy has withdrawn. Advice ?

I obviously don't know this guy, but from my own experience, when I start to get very close to someone, I will usually panic and pull away suddenly. I am working on changing this pattern in my own life, but it took me a long time to even realize I was doing that. In attachment theory, it is...

What is everyone currently doing right now (apart from this forum).

Not working. Seriously, I am at work and goofing off because I just cannot focus. I had to start working full time when I separated/divorced but once I get past 4 hours, or 6 max, I have a really hard time making myself keep working. So I am giving myself a short break by doing this.

When did you stop believing in Santa?

There's no Santa??? Lol, I think I was about 9 or 10. My son, who is almost 12, has been struggling with this for a couple of years. He has told me that he's not sure Santa could be real because there's no way he could get all those presents delivered in one night. But when I asked him how...
