    Clinicals - anticipatory anxiety

I am having anticipatory anxiety about clinicals for my Nurse Practitioner program - clinicals do not start for another year 🙈. I have AuDHD, anxiety, and bipolar (thankfully the bipolar is fully stabilized). The thought of clinicals brings me a lot of anxiety because we have to do group...

    Frequency of overstimulation

Thank you so much for your responses, they really helped me. I just made a realization after reading your posts - the entire 5 years I worked in the ER, and the entire 6 years I was rapid cycling with bipolar disorder, I was in constant overstimulation 🤯

    Provider education on autism

You should write papers on the physiology of autism! 🙌 I would read them 😁

    Frequency of overstimulation

Yes the longest I can think of in being in constant overstimulation myself lasted for a bit over a week- it was a constant shutdown/meltdown/burnout cycle due to intense psychosocial stressors. It was really rough. But besides that I usually have periods of regulation between periods of...

    Frequency of overstimulation

I am not sure if this is a “wrong” question to ask. I do not mean harm, I am just trying to understand. Are there some autistic people who are overstimulated ALL the time? Like I have periods every day that I am overstimulated, and have shutdowns/meltdowns regularly, but I also have times most...

    Weird quirk

I thought it seemed like more of an OCD thing! But I don’t think I have other OCD symptoms, except rumination, which can also be an autistic thing

    Weird quirk

Yes!! I taped over the smoke detector and tiny tv lights! I also cover my phone charger that has a light. I wish it didn’t affect me so much, it legit makes me agitated/overstimulated for hours several nights of the week 🤯

    Provider education on autism

I have a long-term goal of increasing autism education/awareness for providers (ie primary care providers, psychiatrists who do not specialize in autism). What is your experience in how providers have handled your autism? What do you wish your providers knew about your autism? What things...

    Weird quirk

I do this weird thing at night sometimes where I hyperfixate on whatever is lightest in the room. Even if it is dark, I obsess over the lighter areas. Does anyone else do this? It causes me to get overstimulated. Even when I close my eyes or wear a sleeping mask, I have this crazy compulsion to...

    Autism distinct anxiety

I got a lot out of this video so I wanted to share it with you: I am diagnosed with both generalized anxiety and social anxiety, but I think it is mostly distinct anxiety, specifically related to my autism 🤯 curious if others can relate ☺️ Things that make me anxious: Overstimulation Any...

    Demand avoidance / PDA

I found something that is helping me so wanted to post in case it helps someone else! I grew up with a dictator-like father, and I believe that + my autism is the reason for my demand avoidance. His parenting was “you need to do this and you need to do it NOW.” My new friend recommended having...

    Vagus nerve stimulation

Thank you! Just talked about it with my therapist and she said she has had some autistic clients that it has been helpful for. I think I am going to give it a try 🤞

    Vagus nerve stimulation

Has anyone tried vagus nerve stimulation? It’s electrodes on your neck that activate the vagus nerve, decreasing the stress response. I am curious if it could help with shutdowns/meltdowns.
