What was the last thing you cooked?

We shelled them at the table as we ate them.
Where I live, shelling is usually done AFTER cooking, and while at the table.
I think this is the Australian way.
Probably, not the way things are done at Outdated's "side of town", however. 🤔

Americans shell shrimp either before cooking or after cooking. It depends on what we're cooking and eating. There is no "rule" here. The same is true for crawfish. Many Australian recipes call for shelled shrimp so there's no one way to do it in Australia, either.

The Aussie Christmas tradition, over here in the east at least, is to sit down, and shell a big pile of prawns while eating them, making it the main meal.
Shrimp/prawns added to a cooked meal are shelled first. 🍤

I don't eat seafood, btw.

I made some ramen, mostly following a recipe from Wegmans (substituted the organic chicken bone broth with regular chicken stock because it was cheaper and had to substitute the frozen veggies they wanted me to use for a different frozen veggies cuz the ones they wanted me to get was out of stock).

Crawfish boils, seafood, lobster, and shrimp boils, steamed oysters, crab boils, mussel and clam bakes - all of these celebratory communal feasts are traditional in the US. All are cooked without shelling the shellfish. I add potatoes, corn on the cob, onions, peppers and lots of other things to the pot when we have a seafood boil. When it's ready, everything is dumped on big picnic tables and everyone digs in, shelling as they go. Lots of fun and very tasty.

Really Good Stew

2 pounds turkey burger
2 bunches of green onions
6-8 potatoes
1 can green beans
1/3 can corn
1/2 cup chopped kale
1 pint jar of white beans canned in broth
1 pint jar of bone broth
1 pint jar of water

Sautee turkey burger. Add potatoes and green onions. Sautee a little bit. Add all other ingredients. Cook over medium heat with the lid vented, stirring occasionally, periodically scraping the pot licker off the bottom. It's done when the potatoes are spoon tender.

I seasoned it with:

salt
sage
fish sauce

It came out really nice and comforting.

I don’t “cook”. I heat things up from the freezer. But this is the last thing I had. My favorite weekend food.

Dinner last night was some super-charged stir-fried rice adding green onion, red and green peppers, parsley and bits of ground beef.

Shawarma recipe. I'm almost satisfied with it. It's close and just lacking something of a savory spice needed. Anise or annatto perhaps.

I made vegetarian chili yesterday with canned crushed tomatoes, onions, garlic, red and green bell peppers, one jalapeno pepper for heat, a can of black beans, a can of pinto beans, a sprig of cilantro from the backyard, a bay leaf, a tablespoon of adobo sauce, cumin, and dry ancho chili powder. Served it with some lime wedges, grated cheddar cheese, and rice. Yum!
