A brief history of mine.

Epicurean Pariah

Immaculate perception
Hello,
I am a 67 yo male that recently watched a documentary about Autism.
I could understand where the Aspers were coming from, and my wife could not. It was her contention that they were incoherent and almost babbling. To me it was lucid, because I could read between the lines.
I took a few tests on line and the results suggested that I was a profoundly autistic( Aspergers) candidate.
Since I have angered/ disappointed family since childhood and almost everyone I ever met since, I was not suprised.
I looked up other individuals that have or may have had Aspers and thought I was in good company.
After about a month on a chat forum, learning how to express myself a bit, and stretching my wings, I flew to this site.
With great apprehension and no expectations I decided to introduce myself to your forum. EP

Welcome to AC. I made this discovery in my mid 50s. Yeah, it's quite a revelation when you begin to put all those pieces together and answer a lifelong mystery.

hi and welcome!
no need for apprehension. people actually act like adults here, including the teenagers.

Welcome EP. Like you, I am both on the wrong side of 60 and recent to my diagnosis.

I can assure you that there is no need for apprehension on this forum, we are all bearers of the same burden and have much in common.

Welcome to AC, EP.

As you can see there are a few folk here around your age, myself included. You won't find a better bunch of people anywhere, AC is a bit of a gem ;)

Enjoy your stay, we look forward to hearing your stories, and your views.

I've had a great experience on this site and I'm sure yours will be the same. Welcome and good luck!:)

I would to thank you all for your warm welcome.
You know it is ironic that the NTs continue to offer condolences for my"disability", if I choose to offer an explanation as to my ravings.
I see Aspergers as an ability. No shame whatsoever, but deep lifelong aloneness. Books, hobbies and students save my mind from petrifying in childhood.
For me the family was the most painful rejection. At the time my mindset was abject apathy. My solution was to to live beyond the conventional norms and explore the outer limits of audacity.
It was/ is difficult to make a life for oneself when one is compelled to work with others. The solution for me was to find a career that was not dependent on satisfying the standards of the NTs. Later I started to teach my skill to others. Now the world beats a path to my door, and I like it.
What I miss the most in my life are deep, focused and informed conversations. To have a mind that is not appreciated, is a sad state of affairs. Epicurean Pariah

EdR , thank you, what are your general interests?

Harrison, thank you what are you interested in, hobbies?

Judge, thank you. What are your general interests?

These days? Hmmm...mostly events relative to global economics and equities, totalitarian systems, maps, digital photography, paranormal investigations and plastic modelling.

Oddly enough my hobby of plastic modelling is what tipped me off about Aspergers Syndrome, courtesy of a National Geographic program that focused on a person with ASD who also was an avid plastic modeller.

Harrison, thank you what are you interested in, hobbies?

My interests lie in the realms of the mind, or rather, the exploration of it. Along with this I have interests in the fields of medicine, both western and eastern. Hobbies include my love of anything with an engine, from motorbikes to planes, boats to semi-trucks.

Like yourself, I do not see my aspergers as a disability and have played to my strengths throughout my life. Again, like you, people regarded both my 'difference' and my abilities as things they could 'acquire' and came seeking a teacher.

I am fortunate in that I now have someone to share the deeper aspects, someone I met here, an aspie of breathtaking depth. In that, I feel more blessed than anything else.

Harrison, thanks. I am having a difficult time with this site. I am not sure what I am doing, these symbols folks award me with, are they like pats on the back? I feel like I am out of my depth and doing this incorrectly. I don't have enough info about this site to frame my question properly. It is a learning curve thing, but if I am screwing this up and displaying too much ignorance, too much chat room bungling and ineptitude my inclination is to cut and run. For example there is a block with many computer symbols in it. What is this?

Tom, I like history, esp. Ancient. Once studied and learned how to read hieroglyphics, now I might be able to read a name in a cartouche, with an evenings preparation. Mythology, interest not belief. Pre atomic, sub atomic physics, string theory membrane( brane) theory. Geology, cosmology pretty much any ology.
Petroglyphs, ancient artifacts are some of my current favorites. I could not list past interests and I hope I have the opportunity to have as many future pastimes.

History, especially the military aspect, dogs, nature in general, people and cultures, some music... are some that come quickly to mind.
