A new Resident Evil movie, just because...

Anybody even like the Paul Anderson movies with Milla Jovovich?

But anyway...

New Resident Evil Movie Will Be ‘Unlike Any of the Previous Films,’ Director Promises - IGN

I'm not really sure as to what the point is in a second reboot of the film series, after the woke abomination that was 2021's Welcome to Raccoon City. Claire Redfield certainly wasn't raised in an orphanage, and putting crows in the movie, but not the RE2 remake, did seem odd. LOL. Just WTH is that about?

But yeah. Capcom has this *BIG* problem where they keep returning to 1998 for games, plus a bunch of other crappy mediums. I think it's totally pointless how they milk the past repeatedly, which feels shameless. They've been doing this since, well... I don't know. Probably since 2004, at least.

I know RE is basically one big cash cow for Capcom. But by rehashing the same stuff for years on end, it can come across as lazy, or suspicious.

Raccoon City was destroyed in the original RE3 from 1999. So why have we had decades of repeats about it? LMAO. Please explain that.

In terms of Hollywood film studios, it has become standard fair to continually capitalize on rehashing the same old story because of a perception of nominal box office receipts and a target audience willing to pay for them.

A formula that is seldom about any particular story or franchise, but rather the incredibly simple idea of a predictable rate of return on the part of a film studio. Especially in economically precarious times. And of course most any game developer/publisher is likely to go along with all the money they receive from the film rights of entities like Sony Pictures. With most of the risk remains with the film producers rather than game developers.

Or as they say, "Follow The Money". It's all about sustaining cash flow at reduced risk. Not about sustaining a tired old story line. I did enjoy the original film series. Though I doubt I'll continue watching them with an entirely new cast. Besides, I can get my Claire Redfield (Ali Larter) fix watching "Landman" on streaming (Max) Media.

As long as the moviegoers are willing to pay to see the same formula films over and over again, it constitutes demand that the studios are more than willing to supply for that predictable rate of return that keeps them in business and occasionally allows them to budget for a far more riskier ventures involving untested story lines and plots, more expensive known directors and producers, and unknown foreign actors willing to contend with lower wages.

I agree. But it's kind of annoying. 😅

About the only spins off of RE that I like are the animated films, and Resident Evil: Revelations 2. Although in the first one, they showed Claire in a flashback using a shotgun. It's not a weapon she even uses in the game, RE2. Leon is talking to someone about Umbrella at the time, which is why they show her and Leon in the city running away from zombies. She later finds a crossbow. She had one in Code: Veronica as well.

Something tells me they chopped and changed their writers in Hollywood or they passed away, so every reboot is either 'proof of concept' type stuff, or someone has a grudge against these franchises, so they see fit to alter things. 🤭

I do like the Godzilla movies up to 1975. I think it's supposed to be rebooted after that. But there's a lot of things they milk in mainstream media, like The Walking Dead.

It seems to me that this went into "milking a dead cow" territory several movies ago.

Honestly though, very few games these days are original. Yes Capcom has milked RE, but it's also done the same with Street Fighter, Devil May Cry and Monster Hunter.

You could say the same with Nintendo and Mario, Zelda and others. Sega has done the same.

And don't get me started in COD being churned out year after year.

Creativity that's reliant upon a pre-set mould of characters and lore winds up getting very long in the tooth.

As for movies based off video games - they almost always turn out to be bad. But then again they'd never live up to the expectations of most fans.

Nowadays anything that stands out as a novel idea will usually become a franchise and sequels will get hammered out to make money.

I always regretted not having a game where the heroes defeated Umbrella properly. When RE4 starts, there's this narrative that Umbrella just went bankrupt. Wasn't a very satisfactory conclusion after all the time Capcom spent on preparing that stuff. 😁

Then there was all these games about village people, vampires, cyborgs, cultists, and just generally moving RE away from things you know is RE. Zombies. Lickers. Hunters. Cerberus. And so on. These are the things that you recognise early on is RE.

But I have no idea what RE9 will be about. Maybe they'll make it hardcore horror again. I don't really care for puzzles. But to be honest, the mainline heroes are getting old. Capcom needs to come up with replacements eventually.

A guy who looks like Leon may work. Or whatever.
