A question about Prince Williams

GoofKing

All your bases are belong to us
Um, is he in charge of anything or any kind of authority or is he just royal because of his bloodline ? I don't know what all the fuss is about and I also don't think some royal bloodline makes anyone special really :/

Maybe it's a rich elite title ? ...

I agree Goofking, being royal is just a matter of luck. You get a cushy life and never run short of money just cause your mammy or pappy is the queen/king.
The monarchy in the UK is out of touch with real life.

errrr, since when has any monarchy been "in touch" with real life? Then again, what's the definition of "real life" as everyone has one. If you're describing not being in the monarchy, then obviously there are two sides.

You could equally be born with rich parents who made their money from industry. Would you then have more of a "real life"?

I'd rather have a quiet life, with or without money. I don't think money is the be all and end all of it. Health is more important :)

I'd say having good health and a peaceful life is more lucky than being born into a royal family.

The Royals are just there as the last bastions of the British Empire.
Good old Great Britain.
The British who fawn over the Royals are living in a fantasy land.
They are simply the descendants of folk who were skillful enough to win battles and manipulate situations.
Sack the lot of them i say.
But then i am living in the Republic of Ireland at the mo.:D

As I understand it, Britain's royal family is now more of a cultural figurehead than anything else. It does preside over certain ceremonies, etc., but the actual political power it once had is gone. That lies with the people and with Parliament.

Well....we all have a right to be ourselves now, don't we? ;)

I'm just waiting to see if there's a slight chance that the Royals might have to hand the keys of Balmoral Castle over to "new owners" on September 18.

I think they justify themselves as a "tourist attraction" :D

No, I am not a "royalist". Nor am I am "anti-royalist". I just find humans amusing, and ignore them whatever they call themselves :)

I sometimes wonder if Ancestory.com just gives you a random famous or royal person from the past to be related to, so that you'd buy an account :P lol According to that site, I'm suppose to be related to a King Henry or was it James ... Well it was some kind XD

Yikes. I mean, personally I'd see no genetic advantage in being related to any Royal. My genetic plate is full, thankyouverymuch!

Unless you're fully non-European, you're very likely to be related to some kind of royalty, because math. Kind of like my childhood friend being a Kennedy.

Tarragon asked when has the monarchy ever been in touch with real life. I think we need to contrast our monarchy with those in other countries.

I recall reading a snippet somewhere where one of the royal family, might've been the Queen, in a Scandinavian country regularly cycled down to the shops to get a few things. Amazing when you considered the insulated and pampered way our royal family lives.

If you know someone does every day activities like shopping and bike riding, one can identify with them more as real people.

I just wish our Royals were more like that.

He he - have you tried cycling through London! :D

I'd find it difficult to identify much of anyone as "real people" if they are constantly mobbed by either the paparazzi or the public wherever they go. Or something worse like Princess Diana riding in a car in Paris, and Lord Mountbatten who liked boating and fishing. Real people can go where they please. Royals? Not so much, except when or if they calculate inconveniences and risks.

Prince Harry was at the front lines in Afghanistan. That's probably as "real" as it will ever get for him.

Royals have their own sense of isolation to deal with. I suppose it goes with the job unless they can convince the "old grey men" otherwise. I'm always intrigued with those who have the real choice of marrying into such an institution rather than be born into it.

Well, Kate and William love each other. I obviously know next to nothing about them as people, but I can see that much.

Yes. And Diana loved Charles....Mark loved Margaret and Fergie loved Andrew too. But it just wasn't enough.

Odd to wonder about Philip and Elizabeth's long-lasting union. Was that love, or a very strong sense of obligation?

I don't think it's my place to speculate on why relationships that are not my own fail, but other people believe differently, I suppose.

In this case I think there are that many more variables to complicate it all to really come up with any definitive answers. But it's no secret that notoriety can potentially strain most any marriage. It just seems to happen more often than not. I'd think such a lifestyle can't be for everyone...

Well, that's precisely why very few celebrities seem to embrace the spotlight, even if they have to do so for public performances. You have to put in a ton of effort to make a relationship succeed even without the complicating factors of fame and a packed schedule. Adding those elements certainly can't make things any easier.

Just goes to show that fame and or wealth don't equate to real happiness. I suppose for some it's a void that must be filled somehow.

But it does usually put a nicer roof over your head. I guess for some that means a great deal...

I remember the 1994 Winter Olympics, seeing the King of Norway sitting among the hockey fans just like a regular guy. :)
