A question about Prince Williams

God i'm now going to sound like a real bummer ranting on a load of crap here lol.
Excluding Williams marriage, which i'm not sure about or even care about.
The Royals are told who to marry and they invariably marry their relatives no matter how distant.
That's why the European dynasties have conditions such as prognathism, porphyria and haemophilia.
The lie that was the marriage of Charles and Diana was fundamentally based on Charles needing a virgin wife of royal lineage to bear
him children.
That's why he had Camilla as his emotional and true physical partner.
Diana was dumped upon from a very great height as soon as she had performed her function.
She and Fergie were the few who actually appeared to show real human characteristics and emotions and look what the "royals" did to them.
There really is no comparison between Royals and Celebrities other than they are human and the public fawn over them,or not.
Royals have refused to follow their divine path but they have usually been air brushed out of history, painted with a big tar brush and
even murdered and that was in the last 150yrs.
Saying Royals have no power is also false.
Why then does the British government refuse to publish letters Prince Charles has sent to the British Prime Minister?
The Royals like the other Elites in society could not give a toss about the general public so why does the public give a toss about them?
The conclusion of my rant is that Royals are fundamentally undemocratic so should be removed.

I don't anticipate Scotland formally breaking away, but if they did I'd think Britain's coffers would take quite a hit. Perhaps enough to revisit the annual cost of the Royals to the British taxpayer.

Or does tradition in Britain come with a blank cheque? Another "tradition" unto itself perhaps?

I understood Scotland actually costs England taxpayers money to support in terms of benefits. We'd be financially better off without Scotland! Mind you, its all a bit silly really. The days of separate nations are long gone. Its only daft people who are swayed by this stuff nowadays.

If Scotland votes for independence you can bet a lot of investors would move south of the border pretty quickly! And vultures would soon move in to take over Scottish assets.

I will be interesting to see how the vote goes. If the UK loses Scotland, then the backbone of the union will be broken. Wales is insignificant as an economic power, Ireland problematic. It's the oil which makes Scotland economically viable. And if they don't belong to the UK, they are open to other influences who won't give a toss about Scotland, they will just want to exploit the resources. Not good in the long term at all...

And I bet they'd want to install a Scottish Monarchy pretty quickly, but I don't think Billy Connolly is really interested after all! :D

Actually, I'd be happy to pay taxes to have Billy as ruler! The speeches at Xmas would be worth watching! :)

A Scottish monarchy? <facepalm>

I'm guessing independence won't happen. But I just read the other day that bad feelings will prevail no matter what the outcome is.

Um, is he in charge of anything or any kind of authority or is he just royal because of his bloodline ? I don't know what all the fuss is about and I also don't think some royal bloodline makes anyone special really :/

Sorry to come into this late. At the time I was in a country where stating ones opinion about royalty is still considered a criminal offense.

I think its funny how story books glorify royals as if somehow they are better, more delicate, more perfect. In reality, being of royal line just means there was someone pretty bloodthirsty (and who got away with it too!) in ones lineage. Very few if any royal dynasties came into being without either a war or murder.

My 2 cents.

Here are my views of the institution of monarchy in the UK.

Monarchy is an anachronism, that ideally would have no place in a modern democracy.
Having said that, the British royal family has no real power - certainly less than, for example, Rupert Murdoch.
It has been calculated that the civil list (the money provided by the government to the royal family) costs each man, woman and child in the UK the equivalent of the price of a loaf of bread per year; not a great deal in the grand scheme of things, but money that could be better spent.
The British Constitution allows something called the "Royal Prerogative". Historically, this gave the monarch powers to bypass parliament over certain decisions (e.g. declaration of war). This power now resides with the Prime Minister, who can use it to avoid the awkwardness of needing to obtain a democratic mandate from parliament when deciding to join a war.

Conclusions:
1. The monarchy should ultimately be abolished;
2. The historical power of the monarch should not rest with an individual, but with parliament;
3. There are, however, more pressing iniquities to address before the abolition of the monarchy, such as corporate power, press power and appointments to the House of Lords ("Tony's Cronies" and "Dave's Faves").

There was another Prince William story on the gossip magazines at the grocery store tonight. "Heart broken queen something something something!" Why is the queen always heart broken on these dumb papers? I guess I would be too if those goons were following me all over the place and making stuff up.

I find British politics and the British system, and the set up with the British royal family, and British media, very very hard to understand. I'm not opposed to, nor do I hate any of those things, I would have to understand them in order to be opposed or hate.
Now, as for my own country, I understand how things work, and why they work the way they do. Therefore I am able to hate it. (not hate my country, just the way some things are).

I sometimes wonder if Ancestory.com just gives you a random famous or royal person from the past to be related to, so that you'd buy an account :p lol According to that site, I'm suppose to be related to a King Henry or was it James ... Well it was some kind XD

I have royalty in my line, according to the genealogy a relative put together. It's not surprising to me. If someone took the time to do the same for my dad's family, I'm sure there would be more royalty (my grandmother is from England). There's also someone listed as a Native American "princess" in my line. Lots of interesting sounding people, though I can't remember most of them now. I'd be curious to find out who I may be connected to and to know just how much variety there really is in my background. When I ask family what my racial background is, I get a couple things and a lot of "I really don't know". I know I have a good bit of British blood, as well as being part Native American, but that's all I know for sure.

As far as Prince William, I believe he will one day be king. I don't know enough about the monarchy to know what he will do in that position, but I know enough to know it's not a job I don't want. Being in the spotlight like that would kill me. I feel for Kate right now because her pregnancies are really rough and she has to go through it with the world watching.

I can sympathize. I asked my dad once and he said "Mine's from Texas." Helpful. Real helpful. I guess that explains my love of Mexican food, at least.
