Fun fact most don't know. Icelandic culture, geology, and government is a very big special interest. I nearly emigrated in my twenties, when my daughter was about four. I was getting together all the paperwork for a visa and everything. My mom asked me don't take my grandbaby away. That's the thing that kept me here.

But yeah, I love Iceland.

I grew up climbing these very rocks. Barefoot as a little girl. No harness, steep inclines.

Saw a lot of gorgeous snakes. Gigantic Mojave rattlers, sidewinders, gopher snakes, king snakes, coral snakes
they say coral snakes don't live in Cali, but we saw plenty of arrowheaded red touches yellow dangerous fellows all over the Mojave and Inland High Desert range
, some snakes we found, especially in the desert mountains east of San Bernardino, were up to six feet long. Big thick pretty ones, that shimmered in the white sunlight. Antelope sometimes too, or foxes.

Little indigenous children playing among the yuccas.

My dad would bring rakes and brooms, and a trash bag. After the climb, first we'd all work together and find any trash or microplastics and put it in the trashbag. Next, my dad would rake away our footprints all the way from the rocks to the car. And then my brother and i would sweep the rake marks away, so that it would be pristine for the next person. Dad taught us to finish with swooshing sweeps, so that the broom marks would not be visible and it would look like no one had ever walked that path.

It was important. It made me the person I am today.

I think we’re up to “U”. While I have been to some places, like Uppsala and Uranquinty, it was in the days before digital cameras and I can’t find the prints. Who takes photos of Ulladulla or Umagico? And I’ve not been to Uluru yet.

oops i must have looked at the bottom of another page of this game and posted in the dialogue box there, not noticing we were further along.

Valle De Las Palmas, Baja, Mexico.

I lived here in Mexico for a very short time, while working at an orphanage about 2 hours south of Tecate. This photo from online is exactly how I remember it. I spent a lot of time with the milk goats. Talking to and singing to them.

Würzburg Cathedral, Germany.

We only had a fleeting glimpse of Würzburg because we had a flight to catch in Frankfurt. The timetable was jammed up a bit, because I had to drop the family at the airport then drive to Heidelberg (cursing the slow traffic which was only going 120 km/hr) to drop off the hire car. (Why hire it in Heidelberg? A story for another day. Just avoid having your credit cards stolen by pickpockets.) Then I had to catch the train back to Frankfurt, to the airport. I got back just in time for last boarding call.

I love it in the desert when rocks seem to travel down their own highway.
