I don't own a smartphone either and don't want to but will probably be forced into it.
What I do have is a small old fashioned flip phone. I don't think they make them anymore.
There are some things you can't do without installing an app on your phone. When we booked for our previous vacation I had to download an app on my phone to complete the process, even though we hadn't even booked online, we went into the travel agents to book (which I guess is still online but done by the staff there, not us at home).
Sorry if this is steering off-topic but I hope they don't shut travel agents down and expect everyone to book their vacations online at home, because I know it would be too difficult for me or my husband.
But anyway, how do you do these things if you don't have a smart phone?
When it comes to using a smartphone, especially with young people with good vision who can endlessly stare at a small screen up close. I can't.Yes I think more people here use a computer to access the internet and this site rather than a phone. I prefer a phone, as I can't stand typing on a keyboard. My fingers always manage to push like 4 keys at the same time, and it doesn't autocorrect as good as my phone. Or maybe I've just become an expert at typing on my phone. The suggestive text helps a lot.
I’m also 51 and I text all the time. It’s the easiest way for me to communicate. But I do have some friends who don’t text much. I have no problem with talking on the phone, but texting’s more convenient for me.I'm 51 so grew up and lived much of my adult life prior to the advent of texting and/or web chatting
It seems like many people even my age do it far more than me... Let alone the people younger than me
I just don't feel that much interest in being that connected, especially in the virtual world... I just prefer connecting with people in real life, face to face, the old fashioned way, and I also tend to be a loner (that's another topic)... Or am I maybe just old fashioned?
But I also struggle with the immediacy and how constant communication is, am I missing something?
I may have lost my train of thought, but maybe you get my idea...

I have a smartphone but I don't use any apps or do much on it. Just calling and text messages. I don't have a big interest in phones or computers or living the online lifestyle.
As I'm writing this I look over at my good old fashion 1980s landline phone. With no screen and a phone cord. One of my favorite things. That's how God intended phones to be.
That's impressive. I hope you can continue this success for a very long time. It's a terribly annoying requirement for certain things. At least you can delete them after, but it feels like maybe part of it never goes away.So far I have managed to avoid it but it's getting more difficult.
@Forest Cat and @Rodafina: there is a newer It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia episode where Dennis has to keep getting apps for things. He can't use cash. It is hilarious, and too, too true.
You can search "Dennis Orders a Boba Tea" on YouTube. I'd post, but it has swearing.

I once saw a Reddit post where a grandma typed “walmar” in response to her grandkid asking if she was OK.My grandparents are still trying to learn how to text, so I chime in and help.
Another common theme seems to be social media profiles being mistaken as google search engines, I saw a Reddit post where another elderly person was trying their best to do a google search for apple sauce at Walmart and posted it to their area’s official walmart facebook page. Needless to say it could’ve been much worse.I once saw a Reddit post where a grandma typed “walmar” in response to her grandkid asking if she was OK.

I am another one of those perverted freaks without a cell phone. When someone asks me how I can function without a cell phone I simply answer "Very peacefully and without stress."I'm 51 so grew up and lived much of my adult life prior to the advent of texting and/or web chatting
