Something is hinky, because the last two posts are showing twice.
If it all goes belly-up then I want half a dozen aspies with me. The one thing they are good at when it goes wrong is surviving, after all, we do it all the while.
I have always loved going off and living rough, my holidays tend to be like that, and since I was diagnosed I've had the chance to do it with aspies 3-4 times. Totally different that when I've been with NT's, aspies just naturally find the rhythm of what needs to be done. The last time the girls 'grabbed' the hunt before we could put a word in so we had the camp
What I enjoyed most was the silence, communication was 'elsewhere' unless we really wanted to say something. It was a great week.
I have a notion that aspies are the part that genetisists called 'hunters' in hunter/gatherers, The group I was with picked up crossbow use, skinning, and other stuff in one go and were a team within two hours. Best part was that no one wanted a 'leader', everyone just picked something to do and got on with it.
Oh, toilet paper?
We used large leaves, divided the stream into three zones of (going down stream) drinking, bathing and toilet.
I would much rather die.I'm just curious if anyone out there is interested in survival and related topics. Lately, I've gotten into Mountain Men and Doomsday Preppers.
Not to criticize anyone's interested in survival/prepping, but to me honest, it makes me think a bit of a scene in Cormac McCarthy's The Road where The Man and The Boy (that's the only names they're given in the novel) come across a survival bunker stocked with food and supplies, apparently owned by someone who didn't survive the unspecified disaster that has wiped out most life on earth.
This thread hasn't had any activity in a couple years, so I thought I would visit the subject again.
With the world situation the way it is, especially here in the US, I've started to take a more focused interest in personal survival. Living here in Alabama, as I'm sure other locals would agree as well as wyverary, it's prudent to be prepared for a possible natural disaster. We seem to get the lion's share of F3 or greater tornadoes, so most through this area have home survival kits in the event the power grid gets knocked out again, etc.
However, since our country is having the turmoil it is with the possibility of civil unrest looming, I am curious if anyone else has prepped or is planning to prep for such an eventuality. My best friend follows all the talk radio shows and is of the opinion that there will be a total collapse of government with black helicopters and armored personal carriers; the only thing lacking will be zombies.
I've never never been a conspiracy theorist, but lately I have been taking notice of the way things are leaning and have been contemplating what I would do in the event of civil unrest. That is one of the reasons why I want to build a mini camper, because it could serve as a bug-out shelter. Still, in the event of civil unrest, I might not have time to get it hooked up and flee. I might only have enough time to grab my hat and get out of Dodge.
With that said, I ordered a large Navy camouflage pack that I plan to load with food and provisions to hold me for three days that I will keep in the trunk of my car. It will include a one-man tent, Tennessee and Alabama gazetteers and compass for land navigation, bear spray, etc. The bear spray will be in case I can't get home and grab "something more substantial." It will be self-sustaining in the event I have to abandon my car and take off on foot. I may be getting old, but I still have skills that could keep me alive until I get to my buddy's place in Tennessee. I could make it there in two days or maybe longer if I have to escape and evade.
So, with that said, has anyone else considered such a possibility where you live; and if so, what plans have you made if any?
I'm glad someone bumped this thread, cuz I was thinking about exactly this stuff that you mentioned. Everybody is stocking up, and making warehouse types supply shelters, but no one's really considering learning to survive without all that stuff. It's fine to have stuff set aside for disasters, but it would certainly seem more logical to focus on surviving off the land. This thread hasn't had any activity in a couple years, so I thought I would visit the subject again.

Well yeah, that kind of prepping definitely makes sense, for disasters.I've been a prepper since an apartment fire when I was in the 1st grade. Lost everything. Ever since then, I have emergency supplies and plans for almost every contingency, and i have knowledge of both geared and non-geared survival. I wanted to turn this into a business, but with no certifications and the feds making such things impossible, it was a no-go. i still do some consulting at times.
Same here. I've been starting out small, with home gardening, and learning to make cheeses, but I'd really like, over time, to aquire a decent amount of land too.I mean, I would love to have some land and grow my own food, and live in a self-sustainable community. I have studied that out as well. Have crop lists, suppliers, breeds of livestock, etc all lined up and ready to procure. My ultimate goal is to have that kind of agricultural program on my own land. But right now, disaster survival is taking precedence, since that is what I am most likely having to face in the near future.

Yeah, I always carry around my winchester multitool, and various other items. I find a lot of comfort in preparation.I do often consider the possibility of civil unrest especially after 5 policemen were gunned down in my hometown and there was an set of F4 tornados that touched down two days after Christmas.
In my trucks I've got basic supplies for the event of a unexpected problems arises. In my camper I happen to have some "survival type" items. Although it's not like I own those survival type items just in case. I own them simply because there nice, helpful things to have around.
In the event of civil unrest, my hope is to make it to my buddy's place in Tennessee. He has 70 plus acres with plenty of game, so I know I wouldn't go hungry. It's about forty miles north of here, so on foot it would take me two or three days of escaping and evading. In my Crown Vic I can make it in an hour. My greatest fear is being able to make it out of the city, as there are some places that are dangerous without civil unrest.
Yeah, you Texans know what the big twisters are like . . . everything is big in Texas. Seriously, after we had the super outbreak I started to stock up on stuff, bought a generator, and am prepared in case there are looters. A few were shot just north of here. Since you live in a trailer, could you hook up and pull out in a short amount of time?
