Anyone like talking on Skype?

It's been about a week since a friend taught me how to use Skype and it's been nice making contact with people. If anyone would like to have a Skype conversation let me know. I think it's a good system because I have learned that it can be text only or include voice or voice and video. It seems a good fit for autistic people who want to practice being social.

You can even share your desktop on Skype and the ole girlfriend and i have shared some voice chat as well :D

Being social for me is like explaining string theory to a wall. o_O I understand it more everyday and am not getting any better at using it! :D I would Skype but Video & Audio calls scare me. lol

I love using skype!! the most common voice/video/chat messenger I use is Google Hangouts, there you can remote control (with permission) your friend's computer and easier to find the icon to start screen share (and it be full screen)

Thank you for responding. What is the advantage to sharing your desktop with another person? Also, thank you for telling me about that feature, I did not know.

I might understand. A few years ago I had conversations with a online friend, we used Yahoo Voice but I spoke while she used text. It worked out better for us.

sharing the desktop can help with if you have a problem with a program on the computer and want to show the other person or let the other person help you and take control of mouse to fix the problem (just like customer support desks do)

if working on a project with someone (high school or college age people do this) can help with 2 sets of eyes looking at it instead of just one when coming up with ideas if doing an essay or project.

just yesterday, I had to use remote support to fix the mic settings for someone on google hangouts, he could not hear me, and I could not hear him, so I fixed it for him and found out the mic was set to his speakers (line in) instead of his Lifecam webcam/mic USB device.

(technology today, some people get pissed off when things change settings!)

Thank you for explaining. That makes sense and could be very helpful. I have done that with tech support before and they could fix something in a few minutes that would have taken me probably hours, if I could at all. What a nice feature to have.

I do like using Skype to talk. It brings friends closer and I meet new friends too. Sometimes it is very hard being aspie and I think Skype is very good for some of us to socialize. If anyone is interested in talking with me on Skype, IM me. I do not think I would talking with everyone but it is a chance to meet. :-)

I do use Skype when I have to talk to my school mates and the few friends I have around the world. It's a much better communication system than Yahoo Messenger, especially when I have to take a video conversation with someone.

Thats' very true. I was really shy before and I didnt have the courage to talk to anybody via Skype. But now things look differently.

I love skype it's so much easier to communicate I don't see their faces, the don't see mine, and if I feel uncomfortable I can just disconnect the call, and then tell them my connection is bad! :D

Nah, not me. I struggle with disembodied verbal communication. If I'm going to chat, I'd rather have somebody next to me so I can watch them talk so I can understand what they're saying. Phones and Skype mean I have to stop everything I'm doing, shut my eyes, and try to figure out if those sounds are talking, kids in the background, road noise, and so forth.

I have Skype me too! My Skype ID is secret for now but if you want to talk with me on Skype I will accept only persons officially diagnosed with Asperger or any type of autism.

Mine is in my profile... I guess... if someone wanna talk ( just text) please add me!!!! But let me know that you are from AspiesCentral because... I had add a weirdo once and it was reeeeeeeeally scare ...
