Are you too old for anime or cartoons?

May I ask what the liver is? Docs say I can break down over 9000 nutrients.

At the library I work at, a disgruntled parent returned a DVD box set of Dragon Ball with a note that said “This cartoon has genitalia in it. Not proper!” and I died laughing. They also made the silly claim that “adults don’t watch cartoons.” which made them look even more stupid.

The silly co-worker who baselessly assumed I should’ve shot up a school also thought Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon were American cartoons and had no idea what anime actually was. She didn’t even know it was a medium. Then again, this is someone who admits that she doesn’t read and only uses her computer for social media (She asks me questions like “What’s cirrhosis of the liver?” when she could easily do a Google search and get results.) so I shouldn’t really be surprised.

The medium doesn't determinate the quality of its works.

There are animes and cartoons that are outstanding pieces of art. There isn't anything wrong with disliking a medium per se, but denying that it can produce works of artistic value is to be narrow-minded and sometimes even arrogant.

My wife and I rarely watch anyting but anime anymore. She's a little more into it than I am but I like it. Cartoons involve less stress for me and I find them more relaxing. Even if a TV show is a silly sitcom, I always tend to get stressed when one of the protagonists gets stressed about something. I don't get that with anime. I can just enjoy and not worry. Life's stressful enough.

Oh, there is absolutely no such thing as "too old". I still watch kids' cartoons, like Spongebob Squarepants, or Adventure Time. I even watched My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

As for anime, there's a lot of adult-oriented, non-pornographic stuff. I particularly like the slice-of-life anime, like Azumanga Daioh or K-On! But I also watch the shounen and shoujo stuff, which is aimed more at teens. I'm not super into gore and violence, but I'll watch them if there's a good plot or if it's otherwise interesting.

Screw what society says; we only get the one life, so best to live it how we want - and if what we want is to watch cartoons or anime then so be it. :)
I'm still watching anime and cartoons nowadays along with old TV shows for kids/adults, etc. and I say as long as you're getting enjoyment out of it and it's not bothering anyone else, go ahead and enjoy it. :D

especially when they expect us to act how they expect us to act when we're easily stressed or frustrated, that's why we (aspies) & other neurodiversities are not treated like human beings & we're social & societal outlaws because of that.

I just watched a few episodes of the Animaniacs reboot. It's the same satirical, over-the-top formula as the original. A lot of the jokes and potshots went over my head when I was younger and watched the original series. OK, maybe not all of them, but still. As a bonus, you get a refresher course on stuff that's pretty important.

"Cartoon for kids" is a bad way to sum it up.

Maybe call it "family viewing" instead.

As long as somebody enjoys watching something they should watch it, even if other people think it's for kids. I watch at least one cartoon episode everyday. I have been watching a lot of these programs since I was ten and still enjoy them twenty years later.

I don't think that your ever too old for either anime or cartoon's i believe that some show's can be enjoyed at pretty much any age.

Most of what i watch is animated in some form be that if i'm watching american cartoon's such as the Simpson's or more adult oriented one's such as family guy or american dad.

Sometimes i even watch children's shows such as gravity falls or Code Lyoko occasionally i even re-watch episodes of Arthur

Though i still mostly choose to watch anime as an entertainment choice when i want to watch something. I like pretty much all forms of anime within it's different sub genres and usually pick and choose what i am feeling that particular day.

No one is old to watch anime or cartoons in my opinion I mean the anime and cartoons a bunch of them these days are not really meant for younger audience since there are quite a bit of hidden adult messages even in you basic kid shows. Blood tends to be a thing in anime there’s even some dark anime like Tokyo ghoul and hellsing which those are my two favorite mini anime series.

I can’t get into family guy that much but South Park and Rick and north are my top two adult cartoons to watch.

For anime I like to also watch Dragonball z, attack on titan, bleach, and others.

Also I don’t watch Disney that much, but I have gotten into a series called the Owl House and of course people complain about that cause the show has a bisexual character on there and makes it controversial. I find that to be unique to have those different cultures, just my opinion.

I watch most Anime and cartoons with my 7 and 11 year olds (45 here) and some on my own (like Initial D because they are not into cars at all, naturally).

Most of Japanese Anime (on sites like Crunchyroll or Animelab) are not for small kids anyway and some are straight up grown up level violence, gore and sexual innuendo containing.

Used to have One Punch Man as my avatar before I grew a pandemic belly and beard :D

I'll probably never stop watching anime and cartoons. Used to care or worry what others would think of this but now I am too old to give a flower :p

As an aspie i fit in the steriotype of loving anime, not all like anime i understand, i also love star wars and marvel. I like anime i feel less depepressed and relate to the protagonist.

I've seen all the regular tv shows I want to so no one's too old to see anime or cartoons. The main reason why I switched over to watching anime earlier this year for entertainment was because I'm tired of seeing reruns of regular tv shows that aired over a decade ago that my parents watch and I have no interest in live action sports. A pet peeve of mine is that my mom calls anime cartoons and likes to interchange the words, because anime are not cartoons.

I'm also adding in that many adults work professionally in animation fields and some of them even write out countless episodes of cartoons. I've seen companies producing anime hiring very skilled animators and their artwork just looks so skilled. I'm in awe of those people since that is a very hard thing to do.
