AS/ASD things that make your life easier...

Me too! I don't use symbols but I know the store by heart so I list every item I need by when I will pass by it so I can move quickly and get out of there... I get upset when I missed something and have to cross all the way back across the store... Sometimes I just decided to do without and go on and then when I get home I am upset because I really needed it, and I was too stubborn to go back and get it. Its always crowded and I get flustered and I just dislike it a lot, so thats all going to start changing for me and I like it a lot.

I order my shopping list based on when I will get to items in the store. Then I can just go straight down the list. It makes crowded shopping more bearable. Lately, however, I have been shopping in the middle of the night. I can walk to a 24 hour Walmart in less than 5 minutes. Since I don't have a vehicle at the moment, it's pretty much how I survive. Since that isn't an option for someone living in the middle of nowhere, try to shop as early in the morning as possible. Most people sleep in on the weekends. Not doing so is a great way of beating the crowds.

Taking things slow and having a routine when possible helps. I hate appointments esp. with doctors. That is anxiety not only for the reason I need to go, but, they try to make it such a big deal and count you as a no show if you are more than 10 mins. late. Even if it is for a reason beyond your control.
Comforting things through the day like taking frequent breaks, meditation tapes or music, naps, yeah on that soft memory foam bed and pillow with a nice soft blanket.
I have a large window beside my bed where I can look out and see nothing but trees and sky. Same at night, I love to see nature.

I use Amazon for items I buy in bulk for the house. Paper products, plastic cups, etc. When I do have to go to the supermarket I go just before closing late at night. Less traffic, few people, more relaxed.
Write down what you need in sections is what makes it easier for me. Like dairy products in one section, meats in another, fruits together in a section. I know the store by heart then I go from section to section with the lists.

@kestrel your post sounds a lot like my days, except I do watch a bit of TV before bed. Prefer my PC though.
Just remember K.I.S.S. as often as possible. Stress and feeling rushed are my killers.

I have been replacing all the clothes in my closet with plain, comfortable cotton. Wearing synthetic fabrics often makes me want to crawl out of my skin. Wearing fabrics that are 95-100% cotton has made a huge difference. I don't care how "moisture wicking" a polyester fabric may be, it's still plastic, which isn't breathable and will trap heat on your body.

If possible I am going to arrange it so that I can pay all my bills at the beginning of the month right after I get paid. Doing it all at once every month reduces the possibility of forgetting to pay a bill and gives you a clear picture of how much you can spend that month. Not stressing out about finances is really important to me. I will add more if I think of anything.

Just in case anybody wants to know if polyester is made of coal air water and petroleum

I'm with @Judge , routine and regimentation. I've had to learn to be a little flexible, especially at work; but for the most part I live a fairly routine life. I plan my menu out and my "To Do" list for each weekend. Those that know me can't understand why I'm not on the go constantly and how I can live such a routine life. I look at them and wonder, "Why do they have to be on the go living such a chaotic life?"

Chaotic life...

That is what I have never been able to handle. Sure emergencies happen and we have to change and adapt. Hurricane Harvey just gave me a good taste of that, but in general I need a structured simple life and seems to annoy everyone around me. It's like they enjoy or feed off of the drama, which is more like poison to me.

People say I'm boring because I won't go to movies or concerts and then they come back telling me all these nightmare stories that ruined thier fun... ummm so why do they go? And that is supposed to make me feel guilty. Sorry, nope, don't feel it. : )

Another thing that seems to help me is detaching from TV or even main stream radio, news, etc. Sometimes I just put on music that has no words so I don't find a hidden trigger when that is the very thing I'm trying to get away from at that time.

This Harvey thing has me all twisted up. I know, and I am kin to so many people that are in a nightmare... I used to live in Port Arkansas and to see it basically destroyed rips my heart out. So I have had to stop looking at it and get away from it. I will go help soon, but right now there isn't a thing my worrying will fix. : )

People might think I'm talking boarding opera music... nope
Stuff like this

Chance what is boarding opera music never heard of it thanks

I'm still asleep I think
I meant boring 18th century stuff, which can be cool at times, but not today : )

Boarding??? I have no idea where my brain was : (

@Chance You reminded me of a very important one: music with no words. Having to process words is the opposite of pleasant for me.

Makes me wonder about how I mentally process- (or don't) lyrics of most songs. Seems the more I think about it, the fewer songs I actually knew most or all the lyrics to. Though I've never thought of it as being "unpleasant".

Perhaps more like a mystery that didn't intensely interest me, so I never pursued them. Funny to think of some very classic songs where I haven't a clue what most of the lyrics really were.

So many Beatles songs I know....but when I think of the Stones...lol- oh my have I misunderstood their lyrics!

I used to listen to classical music while driving. With all the changes of pace, crescendos and drama in the music..

It was like i was inside a silent movie from the 20's...

Driving really quick in the fast bits.... scared.... have to save the woman on the railroad tracks...

Now with spotify i havent a clue who anybody is anymore, but i did go back to songs with words.

I go to aldi, tobacconist and liquor store once a fortnight. Thats my system.
I wear sunnies when im uncomfortable in public, kind of makes me feel less there, if that makes sense.
Headphones to avoid anyone talking to me.
Valium valium valium
Living out in the bush away from everyone is the best thing i ever did.
And never underestimate the awesomeness of drive thrus.
