I've always had an inner world. It's never been very detailed, as it's heavily focused on the characters and their relationships rather than the environment in which they live.
The characters who make up my world all live in a very spacious house together. It's pretty much exactly like "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends". When I was younger, I used to enjoy having lots of different characters in my mind at once. The largest number I had at once (that I can remember) was probably around 20. Now the largest number I can handle at once is 6.
I used to take characters from existing shows/movies/books/etc. and use them for my stories. These days, though, I am much more interested in creating my own characters, especially ones who are human representations of abstract concepts or objects ("moe anthropomorphism" or "gijinka").
