Autism and Careers in Social Justice

I am an advocate for civilians taking care of civilians, and government handling government. Government sees to the big projects like play dates with foreign officials, civilians run the systems we need to take care of ourselves. With perhaps a judicial hierarchy, I have no problem with our legal system's design in regards to how you have local, state, and then the supreme judges for cases. And I agree, we really do need to step up more as a whole and take care of our relatives and neighbors. I'm not the biggest fan of nursing homes.

Probably if I could start a proper anti-scam campaign, it'd be finding a way to keep people educated and trying to create the most effective way of tracking down and busting the scammers. Kind of like how you teach people how to caulk and seal their houses to keep out unwanted varmints like roaches and venomous spiders, and then train pest control when they need help.

AsheSkyler, I personally am on the same page with you on all that.

And wow, you bring up one of my pet peeves; nursing homes! I understand that some seniors have no where else to go & no one to help them, so maybe nursing homes are necessary & inevitable. And I know firsthand how exhausting & difficult it is to care for a senior with dementia. But I dislike nursing homes & IMO they have become a dumping ground for senior citizens. If many families did not view them as an option, family members would be forced to step up & come together to care for that person. Well, ideally, that would be the hope.

That's a great idea about scammers ... educate & exterminate! :)

Aye, it's one thing if it's somebody with no friends or family and has no alternative, or maybe all their living acquaintances are just as sickly or something. It's another when the system is demanding everybody work themselves to the bone so they can't take care of their aging relatives or if some refuse to. And then there is the issue like one ex-nursing home worker who came into my office today complaining roundly about the immature party-animals she worked with. I'd hate to think all nursing homes had such low standards of their employees.

There certainly is a demand for that sort of thing...it's completely out of hand with no one to enforce existing laws. Still getting such calls two months later. At least I have been able to determine none of them are legitimate. I pretty much rely on the Internet sources for others' feedback based on caller id numbers...spoofed or not.

I guess they're always depending on their potential victims not being aware to this degree...

Heheh, I guess it would be kind of hard to scam an Aspie obsessed with scams, wouldn't it? :p
And I'm a few calls shy of having received my 200th phone call in a year and a half. Sometimes I tell the FTC and DNC that if they were my employees, I'd fire them for their level of laziness and incompetence.

It seems to me, after reading much literature, that many persons with ASD have a high regard for social justice. This is (sort of) in my mind, anyway, in conflict with what could be poor social skills. For me, I chose a career in social work in order to better learn the "cues" of neurotypical individuals and also to help and advocate for the oppressed. Does anyone have similar interest in social justice? (law enforcement, medical field, advocacy, humanitarianism)? It has been a huge challenge but possibly the best thing I've done to further myself.

I am currently an Officer with a federal agency and before that I worked for my local police department. I have always wanted to be in a profession that helps people, my parents say since I was 3. I am now finishing my BS in psychology. My friends and family like to joke that I can do no wrong and like to point out injustices.
I can't help it this type of work makes me feel like i'm accomplishing something.

Hello,

The professional services I'm seeking are services experienced with Aspergers / High Functioning Autism.

What types of professional services offer assistance in navigating transactions such as vehicle/auto purchases, and negotiating the process of renting an apartment?

By any chance, would such services go "along the lines" of notaries offering some types of fiduciary services? Services offering consumer advisor/advocacy services? If not, what specific types of professional services are applicable?

To enlist trusted, impartial "third parties" in those complex transactions that are periodically a part of everyday life can go "a long way" in boosting the progress of people concerned with Aspergers!

Thank-you

ADDENDUM: Thank-you for the 'Like' to my previous post.

Any experience with trusted professional services offering advisors / advocacy to assist clientele in navigating those "tricky" agendas that are periodically a part of everyday life?
