Here's how I was thinking it would work: I would make a thread in which the first ten people (maximum number of poll options) to nominate a book get the book put on a separate thread where there will be a synopsis of each and a poll. The two with the highest votes get put on another poll. Then we read the winner. After a month (is that long enough?), a thread is opened to discuss it.

Yes! I used to read a lot but not as much recently. This would be a good way for me to get back into reading again. I have been looking for an online book club and a book club here I think would be nice!

Like this. If we could keep books at a reasonable cost or find it free online might be another consideration.

"The first one never actually happened..."
Some of the same people showed interest.

"the second one is something different"
Yes, that is why I noted that the second thread was a variation.

There is recurring and sporadic interest in the Book Club idea.
So far nothing much has developed.
Maybe this time there will be more follow through.

The first one never actually happened

An idea that gets stale at the execution stage. There has to be some joke about how many ASD people it takes to get an idea started. :P

I'm certainly interested, but I'm curious what the selections might be. If I'm not totally enveloped into the book, then my mind will just wander, and I'll read pages before I realize I need to re-focus and read it all over again. It took a long time for me to find my groove.

Looking at the "people talked about their favorite books" thread, and seeing things like Educated (yes!), makes me think I'll be more compatible with the selection. So I'm certainly excited to see the nominations!

No one says there has to be many people from the forum. Two people could already be a club and we have at least 7 interested here at the moment. Could be worth a short, even starting with potential 7 selections instead of 10.

@Peachie mentioned 'Educated' here for example - I have to say I've never read it but it sounds quite fascinating. Wouldn't be against giving it a shot as one of selections.

I think that a problem with us, sometimes, can be that we have a lot of ideas, but we may be anxious about their implementation ;). I say, let's start and we'll see how it goes.

True, getting a consensus with us involves a lot of patience because (omg- l already left this topic).

Way to keep the boulder moving! World needs more people like you. :)

I will say that on this book specifically, gave me an insight into a perspective I otherwise didn't have. This has been the first book that at the end, I started to read my next book and stopped just a couple of pages. I really needed a day to just let it all sink in.

I look forward to sharing and hearing other opinions. This might be hard, I know if I was here when I was reading We Know It When We See It I feel like I'd be posting all sorts of things during each revelation. To this group especially. Waiting til the end of the month...squirm...sit..on..hands...

Ohh and to add Some Assembly Required really made me think about diversity. And overlaying that on top of ASD procreation threads I'm really torn. The world is probably a better place because of ASD. What happens when we CRISPR the perfect babies and homogenize towards a standard?

Ok, I'm done now. :)

Wait what was the book? Can we just agree to a poll with 10 books listed and pick one @Fino, otherwise it may never sprout, (the book idea).

Are there rules as to what kind of book may be nominated, I mean, must it be non-fiction? Or are there genres that are not allowed, of a religious or political nature, for example?

For me, I see the problem may be actually getting hold of it to read as I live in a non-English speaking country, it would need to be a book that's available as a digital download, either free or at low cost.

I wouldn't think there need be any rules since it's a voting process. If people don't want a religious or political book then I doubt it would get the most votes. And I don't actually know, but I'd guess most books are available digitally.

@Fino Could you please answer the questions from my previous post?

Though I see that you already made a thread with the nominations. Perhaps next time you should give it some more time for people to answer before you make the poll. If you had answered my questions and waited a bit longer, I would probably have made a nomination. Too late now.
