Cannabis

I feel so much better. I'm about to open up about all my troubles to my most trusted friend when she calls me back. I can already feel my pressure valve releasing. :) I think things are looking up from here.

That's great to hear! :) I re-read your original post, and it sounds like a good friend is what you need!

I've been very isolated myself lately, having just separated from my wife and moved to a new city where I don't have any friends. On top of that, I'm feeling the effects of post-concussion syndrome. I have to keep reminding myself to detach from any irritability I feel--so strange to have to dis-identify with my feelings! It's really tempting to go back to the smoke, but I've started using an inhaler to help clear out my lungs, and I don't want to have to restart withdrawal again.

And my new gym membership starts next week--really looking forward to that! Feels good to feel like I've hit the upside of this current trough, moving towards the next peak. I'm glad things are looking up for you too!

Enjoy the gym! Maybe you'll meet some new folks there. :) I didn't toke for nearly as long as you did..... but one thing that really helped me when I quit smoking cigarettes was push-ups, altoids (loooots of altoids), and gulping large glasses of water. Hang in there! :)

hello,

what effects would both cannabis and opiods have on people with mild asburgers? (as in, they are not born with the asd, and where fine for many many years, but due to lifestyle changes they fit the disanise for asd...

ASD is neurological you are Born with it. It is not something you suddenly just get. As to Taking non medicinal drugs such as you are describing for it is not suggested by most clinicians as it can lead to addictive behaviors and often causes more harm than good. Again You don't just get ASD you have it from birth.

Pardon me? Asburgers? :/

I'm used to it :/ My brother though he was so funny and amusing back then  I agree that Asperger's Syndrome is something your born with and not something you can suddenly just have or come down with to explain away bad behavior or bad grades or whatever.

While a diagnosis would explain a lot of things and even make life a little easier if the person was to accept his or her's Autism, it's still not like a common cold where you suddenly wake up one morning with symptoms. They have to had been present all your life.

It depends on the person who smokes the pot because pot effects people differently I guess from what others have said here on the subject and I also guess that pot has pain numbing abilities as well as some temporary mind alternative effects ...

As a medical practitioner, I can assure you that cannabis or opiods are definitely NOT a "Treatment" for ASD/ Asperger's.

If you are truly ASD then the quickest "fix" I know of is solitude!

First you state you are a medical practitioner not a scientist or doctor so you are a just voicing your unsubstantiated opinions and also the word practitioner means just that practicing not perfect
To the medical practitioner opioids certainly have no practical use in coping with Aspergers the same can not be said for cannabinoids there are already strains which have proven beneficial to certain types of epilepy to the degree that states like Utah and many others are already making allowances for high CBD strains of MMJ. Now as far as MMJ being good for aspies my own Dr. indicated that most probably I never would have had a successful career had I not leaned so heavily on weed. Now I live in Colorado and have had 6 months or so to play with strains with consistent levels of the various cannabinoids, (There are at least 9 being studied currently.) and now I find that some strains help a lot and some not really as much.

And shame on you for reccommending solitude as fix for being an aspie. I am an an Aspie and I am not broken I am just wired different so you can't fix me. And I have plenty of alone time as do most aspies so put your solitude where it belongs in a monastary.

If your MMJ is not a MEDICAL GRADE STRAIN IT"S NOT MEDICINE!!!

I find cannabis greatly alleviates the anxiety and depressive/suicidal tendencies I suffer from being alone all the time. Of course, everyone's different so this is not a magic cure-all, but it has kept me alive, albeit still lonely (hard to find support in the UK) and cheerful.

Spiller , I am afraid that unless you become unaspieafied ( I just made that word up ) the lonelies as I call them are one of the real downsides of Aspergers.
Do you have any beasties a dog or cat perchance? My pugs make life a lot less lonely and a little silly.

Suicidal thoughts and aspergers can we make a song about this cause unfortunately they are a common pairing.
I think that most support from what I have seen doesn't do a lot in the way of enhancing coping skills.

The support group sounds like a great idea and a healthy choice. Volunteering is a great way to feel good about your life and time, and maybe even interact with others.
As far as the cannabis goes, It is a tool like anything else. You can use it for good, or for bad. I do not know it to be an effective tool to replace human interaction.

I may be a hard core old school pot head and although I may be a firm believer in certain benefits that I, not necessarily everyone, gains by using MMJ.
I would never recommend it as an answer to loneliness.
As an aspie loneliness is generally a fact of life, but I am not so sure that that's not also true for our species in general.
After all if a person needs 37,257 facebook friends don't you think they might have a few issues?
Remember if you have just one person who will hold an umbrella for you in the rain then you probably have more friends than many NT's.
Friends are not going to cure the lonelies, they are what makes enduring the lonelies worthwhile.
One thing I have seen in other aspies I have met is an overwhelming resistance to coming out of their little world to investigate the big world.
If you don't interact with the world around you the world won't notice, you must be the instigator to be included.
And if you are included you aren't lonely, you the are an active component in the game.

and remember IF IT'S NOT MEDICAL GRADE MMJ IT'S NOT MEDICINE - or even safe
