Chat Room, what, um, how? Why?

Then there are those of us who use the iphone app, for whom the whole topic of chat rooms is moot.
Aren't we chatting here anyway?

The difference between this thread and chatting is that chatting takes place in real time. In a chat someone makes a comment and then expects a reply within a short space of time. On threads you can take your time, several days or longer if you wish, before adding your reply to a comment. You have time to think over precisely what you wish to say and don't feel rushed into making a reply.

Well said!

I really don't understand why anyone would find a chatroom to be interesting. I prefer posting on forums.

The nice thing about posting is that I can reply to a topic. I can reply to the OP or someone else's posted reply. I don't HAVE to read any comments in a given thread and I usually don't outside of areas that touch upon my interests such as the education and employment forum (since I am a career educator). In point of fact I have turned off all alerts because I found the alerts to be rather intrusive.

I don't care for phones because you have to either pick up the phone when it rings or check your voice mail. I don't like texting for the same reason ... or skyping ... or social media. All of these are really much too intrusive.

Can you say RECLUSIVE INTROVERT? (Heh-heh)

I was fairly active on chatrooms ten years ago. Really brought up my typing speed. Six people at once! Oi... Gives me a headache just thinking about it.

Sometimes I go into the AC chatroom just to spy on people. :yum:

I do like a good eavesdrop session, but won't the others know you're lurking with intent?
Nah, probably not since I post stuff like that just to be silly from time to time. On the rare occasion I go into the chat is because I'm really bored. Usually the conversation doesn't catch my interest so I leave after a few minutes.
