Clothing labels/tags irritation.

As in the title I guess. How many of you guys get driven to distraction by the labels or tags on your clothing? I know perhaps it's a cliché, but I have been wondering if it's as common as people say.

This has always been a major sensory issue for me as far back as I can remember. T-shirts, underwear, trousers/pants would drive me to tears when I was a kid if they still had the label attached.

I had eczema when I was a kid and the irritation was chalked up to this. But the eczema went away and the irritation stayed.

I've been known to basically loose my temper with them a bit and just yank them out of work uniforms etc.

I try to cut the labels off my clothes but sometimes I forget. I have loads of t-shirts with small holes in where the impromptu removal of the label caused collateral damage.

Why on earth do those little pieces of textile feel like someone is rubbing my skin with fibreglass wool? They seem to be worse if they go through the wash.

I've noticed that some t-shirt manufacturers now stamp the care info and size on the back of the t-shirt under the collar. I really appreciate them doing that, though occasionally they hide a label too on the left seam near the waste, just to lull me into a false sense of security lol!

It's always puzzled me that they can cause so much hassle when they are so small.

They just stick out and the corners scratch a little. And they get folded and rubs against you in all the wrong ways. And on for example regular t-shirts I think tags are made of cheap polyester so they are a little stiff and plasticy. Especially after being washed a few times. I always remove the tags when I buy new clothes.

Seems reasonable :-) Its just strange to me that when I feel them with my fingers, they just feel soft and yielding, but against my neck or waste they feel like paper with pieces of glass stuck to them o_O

You won’t find an itty bitty speck of a tag on my clothing! I’m like the princess and the pea. One little tag distracts and infuriates.

I sometimes get this weird thing with jeans too. It's similar to the label thing. Sometimes there must be some fibre that's gone stiff, but it's like a single point of irritation, like there's a bristle from a wire brush stuck in there. It feels very obvious to my leg but I can't feel anything at all with the tips of my fingers. Sometimes I've picked about in the area with an xacto knife to try and somehow remove whatever it is. So my jeans often have little holes in them. It's made me wonder if they use a mild metal bristle brush to brush them down in the factory?

I can relate to this statement very well! Perhaps we can petition the manufacturers to stop this horrible practice of sewing these torture devices into our clothes? :-)

Yes. I’ve always been so bothered by labels, not just on clothing but many things. Pillows, plushies, blankets. Every time I got something new, the first thing I always did was tear off the label. I also hate the way labels feel, they just have a weird texture I don’t like

Some places get it.

I remember years ago there was a mystery death, a guy was found dead with no ID and just a mysterious note in his pocket. And all the tags had been cut out of his clothes, making it difficult to find out where he was from. And people discussed the missing tags, maybe he was a spy? why was the tags missing? so mysterious. I just assumed the tags annoyed him greatly so he cut them out. :)

Oh yes! Of course! I completely forgot about pillows and plushies! I guess that's maybe because I don't tend to buy those things that often and I've long since removed the labels on mine.

I guess when we petition the clothes manufacturers, we will have to also approach the pillow and plushie manufacturers too! :-)

I know the case you are talking about! Or pops up on YouTube quite often! I think they've actually managed to figure out who he was now. I did think the same last time I saw a video about it. I think the channel was Answers With Jo.

I have to remove tags w/ a seam ripper...because the cut ends scratch a lot too
I definitely relate to this too! I've sat, again with an xacto knife picking the remnants of labels out of the seam. Also I've used the same method to soften up seams that cause similar irritations. There are some good labels that seem to just oblige easily to simply yanking them out. They are paper like and they tend to irritate me the most immediately after putting on a new t-shirt.

The tamám shud case, also known as the Somerton Man. I'll bet he just hated those tags scratching him, that's why they were cut out of his clothes. :)

I like it when they print the label right onto the inside of the garment. It makes life so much easier.

It seems we are developing a consensus :-) Printing the label direct seems to be the most popular option. Imagine a world without labels! (That is possibly more profound than I first thought ;) )
