I tend to think up elaborate stories but forget them before I can transcribe them.

This is a weird beginning and I will not be working on it further, because of, well, various issues.
May be a trigger.
All Women
Women had been legally and humanely collected, (during what was known as the gathering years) while all nations agreed that the female would be legally and globally banned over 30 years ago . Earth was now operated by men and Ones. More later about the Ones.
The female babies were sent to the moon orbiter JSis. They were carefully tended by what most referred to as Moons. Some would live out their existence as favored ones, chosen to couple with the earth dwellers to procreate. A few would become Moonsisters themselves. And the rest were summarily categorized into various worker positions, and after growing to the weight/height ratio mandated as healthy for their metabolism, were sent to one of 9 satellites to work.
All nations had agreed to a global ban of females. Thirty years had passed since the gathering years - a time of hunting and collecting every female on Earth. The panel had set forth guidelines for their fate, some were put humanely to death, the others were preserved on the orbiter.

I think I lost the book I had with the story about the human cattle situation. Female humans used for milk production. None of the herd could speak because 1. nobody taught them & 2. they all had their tongues clipped anyway. [I had to sell a lot of stuff a couple years ago] Collecting the women made me think of the story.

Interesting, tree did you sell your story to a publisher or what? The part where their tongues are clipped reminds me of the book, The World According To Garp. I have other story-starts, but find writing so much harder than painting that they stay buried in the computer files.

No, I didn't write it.
The selling means I sold my belongings.

I have written stuff that got published in the school annuals.
I did write a couple things for craft magazines that I got money for.
Maybe the book was Dangerous Visions. I even sold my I. Asimov trilogy that year.

I'm really sorry to hear that you tossed it. I've started writing so many times and stopped for much the same reason. Don't give up
