Culinary Stim: Everything tastes better in....

You know, that one lady we met that one time.

Do you have a mug or cup that you prefer using? Does it seem like everything tastes better from that mug, and if you drink from another, you are slightly disappointed?

Or maybe it's a cook pot you prefer using, or a special plate to eat off of? And everything seems to taste better and have better texture from it?

Maybe it's even an old yogurt tub, where corn flakes taste best eaten from it.

I can't be the only one with favorite dishes, where things seem to taste best when consumed from them.

Share a pic and/or description of your special dish.

This is my special enamelware mug. We have been together through many moons. I don't even remember how long.

The stainless steel French press is also quite old.

Everything tastes better when brewed in this French press.

And every beverage tastes better from this mug.

Warm drinks are creamier and more soothing. Cold drinks seem crisper and more refreshing.

Of course I'll use other cups. But I especially adore drinking from this one, especially if something was brewed in my good old stainless steel French press.

Oh, very much yes.

In fact, I just finished using my most loved bowl and spork. I eat nearly all of my meals from this bowl and with this spork. Anything else just feel less satisfying somehow.

Just love earthware bowls like that. I have a mismatched collection of lost bowl souls l rescued from here and there.

I will die on the hill that individual overpriced sodas bought from the gas station taste way better than the sensibly priced bulk soda you can get at Sam's Club.

I rotate a few favorite plates/bowls and have favorite silverware. Some of the favored silverware is from when I was a kid.

I also rotate between four mugs I like, in a specific order, using one mug each day.

After I moved away from my apartment to a new rented one, I didn't take any dishes or cups with myself, and I'm right now using those, which were already here from my rent-givers (or previous people who lived here). I know that for me food tastes different mostly depending on my mood, so I don't have comfort plates or cups, but I do know that I enjoy the most consuming drinks from just transparent glassy cups, somehow it soothes me, and it is also pleasant to see the drink inside, those can be layers of coffee with milk and foam, or just the way tea leaves spin and colour water in the cup, when I stir it.

I am passionate about sandpipers, and this is my favorite mug.

Most other dishes/mugs I own are white, as I experience a type of synesthesia that causes colors, taste and scents to get mixed up. I think the appearance of foods are most pleasing on plain, white dishes, in general, however. I suppose Im a bit boring. Nice idea for a thread, by the way.

For me, it is my cooktop. We did not want to go the propane route so an electric cooktop and dual oven was a must. For ten years I have been using an induction cooktop. It is great for the ability to adjust heat and cooking with a wok, it puts a lot of energy into the pan. I just got back from a trip into the Ozarks and the house we rented had a heating element electric cooktop. I like mine better because heat adjustment is instantaneous and does not lag after adjusment like the heating element does. I had a hard time cooking on it.

@Loren , the sandpipers are so cute. They travel en masse, and they run so fast at the water's edge at the beach l go to. Nice cup.
Up here in Northern Michigan, the Piping Plovers are back on our lakeshore. The overuse of the Great Lakes shoreline had left a very small population of Plovers left of the Great Lakes population at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. After Conservation measures were taken, that population has grown to the point that other Great Lakes beaches are being recolonized from the Sleeping Bear population. That is such an amazing success, it shows the benefit our National Park system to make life better for us by positively impacting our world and the things we share our world with.

Great Lakes Piping Plovers require a beach with cobble on sand and a good invertebrate population to feed upon. I enjoy going out to watch them. They blend in with the limestone cobble so that you will not see them until they move.

Definitely! I always like tea or coffee (particularly earl grey) from my favourite cat mug! I can't find it right now ironically or I'd post a picture. The issue is I always use it so I'm constantly putting it down in random places and as it's so necessary for me to drink from it I'm always looking for it before I can even consider a cup of tea 😸

I know I had it about an our ago when I was doing some baking in the kitchen. Nothing quite like a nice cup of tea while you have cakes in the oven :)

I guess I'd better go and find it!

I also get incredibly paranoid it might get broken and it will take me a long time to bond with a different cup.

I also like quite specific cutlery and it always has to match in size. I can't deal with a large fork and a smaller knife or vice versa. I like eating ice cream or puddings with teaspoons. I don't like "proper" spoons.

Edit: Actually, I do have a "backup" cat cup that I use when I can't find my preferred one. It used to be my primary one and it's in a sorry state but I still like it. He's lost his ears and it's cracked and chipped. I'm sure people will tell me off for using it but I still like it as a spare :-) Please don't judge me too harshly

I must try a spork! I constantly swap hands with a knife and fork and to be honest, I mostly just put the knife straight down and use the fork as a cutting implement, pretty much as you'd use a spork I guess! 😸

Now this post has me thinking. Glasses and mugs have to be a very precise weight. So l shop for weight, aesthetic, and composition. My glasses are multipurpose, lightweight, easy to clean, and are fun to look it. I am like the Martha Stewart of all those products that occupy my shelves. Lol
