Yes, not panicking and going about my normal routine, plus watching my child all day because all the schools here closed last week because of the scare.

Yes, it's dangerous, but you are more likely to get into a car accident or have something else bad happen to you at this point. Mass hysteria only fuels the fire and crashes the stock markets and global economy.

I have a touch of OCD so it's 'just another day at the office' really.

Things I've been doing for years are suddenly trendy.
Everyone's doing it.
Don't feel so alone in my contamination crusade :)

My concern over this particular strain has been no different to concerns over any other contagion.
Like I said, just another day at the office.

Aye, same here.

When I hear of people doing X thing for this, I keep thinking "Er.... but you should have been doing that ANYWAY. You know, to deal with the ALREADY DANGEROUS AND ALWAYS FREAKING THERE influenza virus? And all that bacteria and whatnot?" But everyone ignores stuff like that DESPITE it being dangerous because it's not "new and scary" and isnt being constantly trumpeted by the accursed media.

To most people, washing their freaking hands and being careful of what they touch in the first place seems to be this incredible marvel of science that the medical community only just now came up with. To me, it's just Tuesday.

No, seriously, I'm already germ paranoid (despite the fact that I'm super resistant anyway) and CONSTANT sanitization is pretty much my whole thing. I have soap. SO MUCH SOAP. And it wont even occur to me to do something like touch my face after my hands have recently touched.... any other freaking thing. And if someone does touch me, it'll BUG me. Like, store the other day, right. Getting at something on a shelf, I have to reach in, and I realize suddenly that my long hair is dragging on the shelf itself as I reach that deep in.

Whole rest of the store trip, my only thought is "OMG CORRUPTED HAIR NEED WASH, RED ALERT, RED ALERT". If I recall correctly, once I got to the car (probably walking slowly so my own blasted hair doesnt hit my mouth) I'm pretty sure I did something like take a bunch of anti-bacterial wipes and run them down that part of my hair.

Yes, this is all as silly as it sounds. Probably look like a damn fool dealing with it. But it's how I *always* am.

I figure, it's better than being the disgusting little poo goblins that most of the general public is. Well, now maybe some of them will learn to be less pooey, eh?

Other than that, I just keep to myself.

The ONE thing I am genuinely a bit concerned about: We have a trip coming up, down to the island. That means getting in one of those flying Pringles tubes for 2 hours. Again, I'm super hygenic and extremely resistant anyway, BUT, we're going to have The Baby with this time. My nephew, actually, who is less than a year old. And him, and my brother and his wife have all been sick ALOT lately. My brother works at a school, you see (germ farm), and his wife works as a nurse at some hospital (germ FACTORY), and then the little one is at daycare often (germ playground). So they've already been sick at random intervals for awhile now, and now they want to go get on one of those blasted metal birds with this going on? My brother and his wife, they can handle it, I'm sure. But a baby is always at risk.

So yeah, that's the current worry. Though, in all honesty: It'd be a worry even WITHOUT the new virus, because AGAIN, it's freaking flu season and there's all sorts of gross bacteria and, I dunno, monster bugs all over planes, and yeah, baby. Only difference is that I'd be the only one worrying in that situation, everyone else would just be doing the whole poo-goblin thing.

So that's my thoughts on it.

Saw people at the self-check out at the grocery store going through quite rapidly, scanning their purchases, one after another, touching the equipment themselves. There were people with colds doing their own scanning. The staff don't appear to be wiping the things off after each use. So I won't be using the self-checkout there in winter, unless I get to sanitize the things that people constantly touch. Or I'm wearing gloves.

This is actually one of the reasons why I use the self-checkout lanes. I dont have the cashier touching all of my stuff; no matter how sanitary the cashier themselves might be, they've still touched a gazillion things held by poo goblins. So yeah, I try to avoid that.

Though, the self checkout machines in my area dont require that I actually touch them (no scan gun), aside from poking 4 buttons to enter my card's pin number, but that's just more reason why I've got the handwipes in the car. Whoever invented those things deserves a prize.

Anyway, it bugs the heck outta me, always has, as to just how NOT careful people are about spreading their own germs to others. Whether it's a simple cold or the bubonic turd plague, nobody seems very considerate at all when around others. A few weeks ago, I had to go over to the doctor's office, in order to deal with renewing one of my prescriptions. Which meant entering the building that ISNT the urgent care section. This building is more about long term care and prescriptions and special stuff like that. So I figured, okay, no need to get TOO germ paranoid there, right?

Enter building (which is mostly empty), walk up to elevator, hit button. Elevator door opens, kid of about 15 or so standing there. Instead of a traditional greeting of "hello", he sings for me the song of his people, which seemed to go something like "Bleh HUAGH COUGH COUGH haaaaaAAAAAAACK ugh ugh BLAHGH" and then he just waltzed away. I gotta say, I wasnt too pleased with this particular performance.

No mouth covering, naturally. And people are usually like that. It's disgusting. At least have SOME freaking courtesy, dagnabit. Is it really that hard?

Not me. However, I mostly stay indoors at the moment due to fatigue and depression, so my chances of catching the virus aren’t that high anyway. Plus, there are no confirmed infections in my province so far.

I'm being a bit more careful and frequent about hand washing, I watched a video about the correct way to wash your hands and apparently I've been doing it wrong all my life . If one good thing comes out of this at least maybe more people will wash their hands after using the loo, the amount of people I've seen just walk straight out of a public toilet without doing so over the years is horrifying. People are gross.

Almost usual for me, I still don't understand why there is a rush on toilet paper...
The toilet paper crisis is hilarious! I was having a bad day on thursday but a few minutes laughing over #ToiletPaperGate on twitter turned it around. Of all the things to panic buy, why toilet paper?

I don't think about it and do nothing special.
It's starting to break out here in Florida too.
I haven't even taken flu shots since back in my 20's and that's like about 40 yrs. ago now.
Had the flu once in all those years.

That's the way I deal with life I guess.
When I had liver cancer and a prognosis of 2 years even after having half of it removed,
I just didn't think about it.
There were no chemo or radiation for it at the time as it was a variant strain they knew little about
and few people ever had it.
After I was well enough to go on with life, I did just that.
People ask how I did it and are amazed at it now being 10 years since the cancer.

I'm not in denial that I had it and I go for my appointed check ups, but, I live like it never happened.
And that's how I live now with this new virus scare.

I looked for hand sanitiser but it's unavailable. I got ordinary hand-wash and have washed my hands a bit more, though actually I had a really full on tummy bug yesterday so not sure if it makes any difference! I haven't had flu for years and I am not usually socialising a lot as normal. For someone highly unsocial. Been joking about pangolin meat possibly being in the mixed meat choice at the takeaway. But hopeful it isn't, as no pangolin should have to die... or other wild creature.

It's revenge of the pangolins. And maybe civet cats and bats. Yuck. Don't eat those things!

You can google recipes to make your own hand sanitizer. Or just dump pure vodka over your hands. And then lick your fingers, LOL.

My favorites are the ones that "wash" their hands, sarcastic quotes and all.

One I saw recently did kinda like this:

1. Finish using toilet
2. Go to sink (after scratching face)
3. Water on!
4. Wet hands
5. get soap blob
6. VIOLENT CLAP, real fast
7. no scrubbing, just turn water not quite all the way off
8. ignore both paper towels and the blow dry thing
9. leave bathroom. Door handle wet, sink splattered with water and small soap blobs, water still running a bit.

Yeah.... some people do wash, but it's like they need to go take classes before they can do it right.

You're supposed to wash all parts of your hands with soap for the length of time it takes to sing Happy Birthday twice to yourself, including tops, thumbs, between fingers and under fingernails. I estimate that's about 20-30 seconds.

I think the reason people are stockpiling toilet paper is the fear that they will be forced to stay home, unable to go buy TP from a store. Few things are worse than running out of TP.

I have been more diligent about washing my hands. Today I mopped my floors with a bleach solution and sanitized my kitchen counters.
I already carry sanitizing wipes in single packs in my purse and have been using them more often.
I am also trying to eat better and take my vitamins to improve my immune system.
I wish I had never Googled dust mites!

Nothing new here really. Me and my partner have always tended to food shop late at night when the supermarket is empty and about to close. I'm never really in crowded places for any length of time.

The office I work in is open plan with about 20 people in one room. Unfortunately none of them have the courtesy to stay at home when ill. Every day throughout winter you heard multiple people coughing, spluttering and sniffling. I found it quite off-putting. At the same time, I find I can be around people with colds for days or weeks and never get ill myself.

I've never been one to worry about germs and my immune system seems decent enough. I get a cold maybe once every 3 or 4 years and I've never had the flu thankfully. The only time I felt really sick was when I got the norovirus (winter vomiting bug) one Christmas. Wasn't the best timing - it started on Christmas Eve and passed on Boxing Day.

The news has been relentless on this topic. Whenever I used Google I'd see no end of completely unrelated searches coming up with news articles on this outbreak. For a week or 2 I was keeping up to date with the World O Meter site statistics for the virus - but it just wound up evoking similar emotions as the news did when I used to read it, and none of these emotions were positive. A few days ago I got to a point where I told myself to stop looking at these numbers. I was doing so on a daily basis and it was upsetting.

Shops here still appear to be fully stocked. Work has imposed a no handshake policy with visitors which seems like a trivial gesture at best. I hear daily murmurs in the office regarding the virus and I find it a little tedious at this point. Worrying won't get anyone anywhere. It feels hypocritical to feel displeased towards other people's worries when I've had anxiety and depression for most of my adult life, but it is what it is.

I suppose, with the relentless media updates on this virus, it's only natural that a lot of people are worried. Perhaps they should look to those tacky signs everyone bought which said "Keep calm and carry on" or as Arnie so eloquently put it

Just heard that someone was diagnosed with coronavirus near where I live. Still, carrying on as normal - I don't usually get any of the myriad of regular colds and viruses normally around so not likely to get this, and if I do, then I will take all necessary precautions and self-isolate.

Sure but there's a difference between buy an extra pack and buying a years worth of TP, getting into fights over it, and leaving all the supermarkets empty. And not even bothering to buy food which is far worse to go without than toilet paper.

I've seen people use this highly effective method:
1. Wet hands
2. get soap blob
3. rinse of soap blob (no scrubbing)
4. flap hands vigorously to share germy water with everyone else
5. leave

I'm OCD about my hands being clean anyway (I wash them at least 25 - 30 times a day) and I keep a supply of hospital masks for dusting so I'm stocked up. I don't socialize much so I think I have been prepared as possible for years.

They took my temperature at the assisted living home, l had to check that l hadn't left the country, etc. Because l was telling them about my upcoming departure.

I have to go to the hospital on Thursday for an ultrasound on my shoulder. Won't it be kind of difficult if I'm wearing a haz-mat suit?
