Dislike for pictures of yourself?

I rarely ever take pictures of myself but I'm not camera shy. I've met two people that do have a real problem with seeing their own image though, in both cases they also have bad reactions to seeing themselves in a mirror.

One of them was one of the other homeless people I met when I was living on the streets. Ex Israeli military, an incredibly nice man and very interesting to talk to, but if he saw himself in the mirror he'd start arguing with all the other people that lived inside his head.

I don't crave getting photos of myself, I am very comfortable behind my camera lens mostly...

Some of you know that I do photograph strangers and people I meet though  ...

If someone wants to photograph me I don't hide from it either, but there are very few photos of me as an adult... A few of my friends (even some men) seem to love selfies, I can't stand them and they drive me crazy!

On the weekend when I was out for my typical photowalk, another photographer took my portrait, I consented, I do have an interesting look especially with the hats I wear... He took a great photo that I like...

If that's you in your avatar, you're very pretty.
Thank you for saying it<3
I wish my life was simple and easy.
I lost a lot of weight through illness and Hused to have weight problems
But when you are bigger it does not make you less beautiful but more weight can make things change everywhere.
But I wish like hell I was not targeted so much by people over my appearance as a highly sensitive person and a person with disabilities thst really destroys me.
I just want to be me especially after illness.
Appearance can be nasty in this world. Sometimes feels worse to have a good appearance rather than a bad maybe having a worse appearance makes you feel more peace whatever happens in your life.
At least you know people aren't out to get you for the way you look
Through everything I have really wished my appearance was less
Then I feel at least I could feel some peace even through insecurities considering I was quite a heavy weight and large in the past and people also treated me like a nothing when I was large.
And beautiful people can have more insecurities than less good-looking people other people just think they do not because they want to look that way and think they are lucky.

"Barzini" at Connie Corleone's wedding.

I always liked that scene...heheheh.

Thank you for your replies. I've been thinking about the many unusual things I do or used to do, and the picture thing is curious because I started so young that I don't have a clue as to why. My best guess is that I think I look different when I look myself in the mirror than when I look myself in pictures. Not worse or better. Different.

Look up 'camera shy' in the dictionary and you'll see my picture, next to it. Or should that be, you won't see my picture next to it!

Anyway, I have exactly 0 selfies on my phone. Pretty proud of that, actually.

That's always been a fascinating observation I have made over the years with many different people, including myself. That under all kinds of different circumstances, one may look quite different than in another situation. Almost to a point of possibly appearing as someone else.

I’ve noticed that sometimes people look better in person than they do in pictures.

When I was a kid, I enjoyed being in pictures.
As an older adult, I prefer to hide. I'll joke that I don't want to be responsible for broken lenses on phones and cameras reacting to my appearance....

How about that fabulous affect on self esteem that one receives when they look up at the grocery store security monitor in U-Scan, and the camera makes them look like this:

I never liked photos. Growing up I refused to be in any pictures. I think I have about 5 photos of me from between the ages of 12-22 and thats it. I have no idea how to pose or what the correct facial expression is for a photo. I feel like I give off uncanny valley.
