Do a lot of us just like figuring out how things work?

I read a book that explained the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything. It's 42.
Yes, but what is the question?

I always want to know the reason behind things. Telling me to accept something as being the case without giving a reason just isn't acceptable. In order to accept a rule, I need to know why.

Also, when faced with a problem I need a solution to, I tend to always try to solve it on my own rather than asking for help. I'm stubborn and persist for longer than the average person, like a dog gnawing on a bone until eventually I figure it out. A lot of people, if they can't figure it out within 10 seconds they just give up.

Yes, I'm the same way.

Apparently you got that the answer 42 is from Douglas Adams "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". A giant computer was built to calculate the answer to Life the Universe and Everything. The answer was 42. The people then wanted to know what the answer 42 means. The computer then pointed out that the question was insufficient and needed another computer to provide the Ultimate Question.

ABSOLUTELY. I truly have difficulty understanding why everyone DOESN'T do this. I can acknowledge intellectually that people don't, but I don't get HOW that's possible. I have to understand at least the basic principle of how everything works that I come across. Doesn't have to be totally in-depth with EVERYTHING (only my special interests), but I absolutely am compelled to understand the basic principles of the Universe.
