Do you ever feel overwhelmed thinking about all the films you haven't seen?

Not really. There's no requirement for consuming any media and I don't care that "everyone" has seen something and I haven't. For example, I am not a fan of Star Wars. I've seen the first three films and they're good for what they are, but I could not care less about the franchise or any of the prequels or related movies. Same as far as basically any superhero movie. I just don't care. I watch whatever I am interested in at the moment.

Not really, no.

There's just way too many films out there and it doesn't bother me that I've barely even scratched the surface. Even if you try a cut-off year to start with (like say, all films released since 1980), it'd be literally impossible to even see every single film released starting with that year.

Sure, maybe the end result is that I'm out of zeitgeist with what movies are currently popular but at the same time - in the modern era with streaming, home video, etc., that doesn't really matter because it's just easy to find movies that I want to watch and not just 'Oh well your only real options are what's currently in theatres and what you find airing on TV'.

I get this not with movies, but tv shows and webnovels. I have say too many stuff on my "to watch " and "to read" list and somehow i can't begin at all.

I have a tendency to get stuck on a certain series or two and it can be like a punishment to have to watch something different until my obsession with those one or two series has waned. I watch other things if someone puts them in but I feel bored and still obsess about whatever series am currently obsessed with. I have gotten better about this compared to during childhood and can try other shows easier but still tend to be obsessive about whichever ones I am currently obsessive about.

Or do you sometimes feel that people are giving you a hard time because you haven't got around to seeing a certain film? Thoughts.
It's not something I worry about much these days. I am falling behind in popular culture and I am okay with it. I am more concerned about finding time to paddle a lake or river or walk with a camera.

I wouldn't hold my breath with any expectations of film producers having any interest in faithfully following a novel whether based on fact or fiction, let alone fantasy.

Reminds me of reading the rants and frustrations of author Stephen King as a paid "consultant" on set of some of the movies adapted from his novels. Where producers and directors seem indifferent and capricious about remaining faithful to original source material. Often just a whimsical creative choice, or reasoning based on constantly fluctuating budgetary concerns.

Either way, more often than not, the horse comes out as a camel. The nature of the beast....er uh....filmmaking.

I might not be alone in this, but I only really watch movies as a social mechanism, and mostly with others. I'll watch some alone from time to time when I want to discuss it with somebody (or if it's really trashy), but mostly I just use them as a bonding mechanism with people and to have something cool to talk about and do.

Music on the other hand... it's all outsider stuff, total buzzkill 😂

Last time I watched a movie was probably like 15 years ago.

I get a lot of "WHAT THE HECK HOW HAVE YOU NOT SEEN THAT" from people.

And an inexplicable amount of people trying to convince me to go to the theater with them over and over again... I dont understand that part. What's the definition of insanity again?

I have at least often HEARD of various movies before. Not very often, mind you, but sometimes.

Beyond that I dont care much.
I think people have this "classic things you MUST see before you DIE!!" bingo card mindset. None of it matters.

Kind of.

Rare ones on eBay are just going for a con artist level of super expensive. Sellers learn they are hard to obtain, then drastically bump up the prices. It's ludicrous what the out of print copies fetch up to.

I grew up, and still live, in a community that doesn't watch TV and movies as a religious principle. In recent years, I have watched some stuff, but never because of social pressure. I don't like romance or violence; that encompasses a good percentage of films. Some of my favorite shows are Dennis the Menace and The Berenstain Bears. Being uniquely ignorant of what the world expects one to know can be fun.

I don't feel overwhelmed at all - as there is too much junk content.
I agree that many shows are junk. Especially modern ones. It seems like everything is coming to have violent content; even what was formerly considered innocent children shows like Winnie The Pooh. 😟
