Do you listen to music in a different language?

I listen to some J-pop, and I also listen to some opera. I don't understand most of what they are saying, but I listen to it anyway if I like the sound of the vocals.

Do you listen to music sung in foreign languages you do not understand, or does that bother you too much?

Yes. A band that I really like is Héroes del Silencio, whose entire output is in Spanish.

I adore listening to old Slavic or Byzantine chants. They are so slow, reverberating, deep. No accompanying instruments. Beautiful, mature lyrics, exploring the vulnerability of the human condition and the majesty and mercy of God. The power of the male voice at worship, whether low or surprisingly high and angelic, chills me to core and puts me in a very tranquil, meditative state.

I like a lot of songs that have occassional phrases in foreign languages. La Isla Bonita (Madonna), Mi Vida Loca (Pam Tillis), Water (Martika), Ti Amo (Laura Branigan), La Luna (Belinda Carlisle)... I prefer the bulk of the song to be in something I can understand.

I listen to a lot of japanese music and I can't understand a word of it.

Half the time I can't really follow the English lyrics, and I'm fine with instrumentals, so a foreign language is no problem, just a bit lacking in story values. I also remember a movie by English-speaking Jamaicans that had English subtitles. . .

I enjoy some songs in Spanish and the Byzantine chants.
What I really find comforting is Celtic. Enya is beautiful even though I don't understand the words when she doesn't sing in English.
