I worry that I may be a hoarder and not just a collector.

That was certainly a lucky catch! I do know that they are desirable to collectors. I know that some Star Trek VHS tapes are valuable since they have the original cuts of the movies without modern effects added. The difference with the Star Trek ones are that they will often release the original theatrical cut along with the new improved version as a collectors edition.
But George Lucas basically says "tough luck" and won't let the older versions see a contemporary release. It's kinda like gaslighting your audience in a way and airbrushing film history. So that's why people will pay big bucks for the old VHS versions for safe keeping, if nothing else.
I suppose they are easily found in their original state on Netflix. Well, pretty much, there is a small difference with the crispness of the images but I seem to be the only person that notices itFor some strange reason, we recorded all the Star Trek The Next Generation original episodes for several years on VHS. Our old VHS player still works and we have the VHS tapes but no one ever watches those old shows in our household.
That reminded me. I also collect pre-electronic computers and calculators. Yes, such things exist. There is nothing quite like watching a Monroe Calculator trying to divide by zero. I am still trying to find an affordable Kurta.I collect vintage computers. I hadn't counted exactly how many I have until recently. Turns out I have around 90 computers or games consoles, but I keep on discovering ones I have forgotten about lol! I could start a museum.
I also have quite a few guitars, I own 10. I wish I played them enough to warrant having that many. I used to. It's just not very enjoyable with the aches and pains I get.
I have quite a few vinyl records too, not as many as some avid collectors have, but I think I have around 80-100 LPs.
I also collect electronics components from broken, or way too obsolete appliances. If I find anything at all useful, or possibly useful one day, I will desolder it from the circuit board and store it away in my parts organiser. I actually converted my Japanese Sega Saturn from 110volts to 240volts AC because I was able to repurpose the power supply unit from an old TV set top box. It's crazy to me that people throw these sorts of things in the trash or e-waste!
Oh no! Are they only on Blu-ray now? Or do you mean no box sets at all any more?I liked collecting seasonal box sets of The Simpsons until some genius decided not to sell them on DVD any more.
The summer of 2008. I had fun giving away an entire collection of VHS tapes when I moved to Nevada. Put them all in a big box marked with the word, "Enjoy" and left it along the side of my alley way.For some strange reason, we recorded all the Star Trek The Next Generation original episodes for several years on VHS. Our old VHS player still works and we have the VHS tapes but no one ever watches those old shows in our household.
Does any autistic not collect something? I have had a lot of collections through my life, but my current ones are radioactive items, pipes, straight rasors, fountain pens, books, horror movies, and hats.
No box sets any more, not after season 20.Oh no! Are they only on Blu-ray now? Or do you mean no box sets at all any more?
I so badly want them to. It isn't fair. I used to get a new Simpsons box set every Christmas and it used to make Christmas so exciting, as on Christmas night I would settle down and watch the never seen before by me episodes. It was something to look forward to.I just bought the first 10 seasons box sets through eBay. I've been keeping an eye out for the others at CEX etc. but no luck yet. That really sucks if they aren't making them anymore!
I understand how annoying and disappointing it must be! I think it's really silly that they have stopped producing them, particularly after season 20?! Why stop there?!No box sets any more, not after season 20.

Good luck with thinning out some of your collections. I find it challenging to get rid of things that I have attachments to, so I've been trying to do the next best thing and store my collections more efficiently. I think it's kinda going ok. I got lots of those plastic tubs/boxes with lids and I've carefully put things in them. I've quite enjoyed that as I like fitting everything in like a 3D game of TetrisI've been working extra hard to thin out some of my collections the past couple of weeks. I'm getting a new desk for my computer sometime in May and I need extra space to move it upstairs into the apartment. I guess it's for the best. My mother said my dad was a real collector too, but I never really noticed since he stored most of it in his tool shed.
