Feeling blocked /stuck on a loop...

Hi !

Do you feel sometimes that you have something to do, but instead of doing it, you just run in circle the entire day?

...

Do you feel like that sometimes?

I seem to have only two modes - full speed or full stop. When I'm stopped, it's hard to get started. My wife will often pick the simplest, smallest task and say, "Just do this." What happens then is that I get started and then keep going and get all the other things done, too. I've learned that a few things help me:

1) Just get started. I need to do just the first step of whatever task. Usually that's enough to get me emotionally involved enough to want to finish it.
2) If I can't get started, it might be because I really don't know how. So the first thing I need to do is plan the first steps.
3) Get moving physically. So often, I just feel tired and want to do nothing but sit on the couch like a lump, but when I actually get up and do something, I quickly begin to feel better.

I'm not sure if this is related, but, I have a difficult time of getting myself to open mail. I am not sure why. The mere thought of it overwhelms me. I have executive functioning issues, and I suppose that there are aspects of opening mail that involve executive functioning, but, perhaps it is due to something else.

It's not wanting the contact with the outside world that gives me the same feelings about opening mail, (always glad to see I don't get much anyway), or answering the phone. Usually I let voicmail answer. Again, I don't get many calls anyway except robos and solicitors.
An Aspie friend of mine is the same about the phone.
I was with him once when it buzzed. He said:
"Someone from the outside world wanting me."
He checks his phone in the evening for texts and voicemail.

^I don't do phones, either. I suppose exposure to the outside world could have something to do with my own difficulty with opening mail. I will have to ponder that.

(I need to learn how to 'quote'. I tried to quote you/your comment, but I must be doing something wrong...)

A couple of my cousins, actually.
When they have been out of work,
they have caught and cooked snakes
to eat.

I have watched lots of youTube videos on preparing and eating snake. There are a couple of cute Indonesian boys on YouTube, who live in the jungles somewhere. They show how they go hunt snakes, kill, cook, and eat them. These kids are very young...it’s amazing to watch.

I love snakes. I am not afraid of them, and have held them, and even had them wrapped all around me (big pythons). But, if there is nothing else to eat, I could. I hear the meat is delicious. I love to try weird foods.

I've eaten grilled snake a couple of times. It's fairly common on menus in Texas restaurants and it tastes good, kinda sweet white meat. I also like alligator and frog legs but, then, I'm an adventurous eater and cook. Snakes have a weird physiology. They are all neck below the head.

I have eaten alligator, frog, shark, eel, squid, octopus, turtle soup, rabbit, pheasant, buffalo, deer, and fried bamboo worms (the most horrible looking AND liver tasting thing on earth!). Gosh, and I LOVE animals more then humans! How could I eat my friends?

The "Reply" function has fewer steps.
I don't use QUOTE very often.

Also, it's possible to 'quote' by using Copy & Paste.

This must be a UK thing because we don’t just “eat snakes” whenever we fill like it lol
Pretty sure its not lol.

Jellied eels is as close as it comes, and even then that's only a very small population of the UK.

The only snakes indigenous to the UK (that I can recall) are Adders and Sloworms.

yah I can waste many hours of the day checking my email and fb repeatedly, though there will be nothing there.
ridiculous
I hate this disorder

Thank you, @tree !

I was able to quote a post, last night, for the first time. I sincerely appreciate the directions.
