Halt And Catch Fire

Season two has begun...headed in a new direction. Online gaming.

Man, that brings back memories. Before shareholders made the effort to sell the software entertainment part of the corporation I once worked for, there was a desire to move into having an online gaming presence. Seemed so exciting...and lucrative at the time. Tragic it never came to fruition.

I sooooooooooo loved computing of the mid to late 80s. :)

Fun seeing the most recent episode suddenly ponder the idea of an online version of a First Person Shooter.

Season three has begun. The plot has morphed into online communities overshadowed by burgeoning computer security concerns. Joe MacMillan to the rescue....as a sort of composite Peter Norton.

Meanwhile the other major characters continue to stumble through their online community and gaming portal known as "Mutiny". However so far they don't seem to have a clue as to how to technologically protect themselves. Despite their very intentional split with Joe MacMillan, I'm guessing it's only a matter of time when their paths cross again.

This morning I woke up recalling the day I felt compelled to purchase my first firewall software. "Black Ice Defender"....found it at Whole Earth Access.

Not a computer geek, but I enjoy this show for the aesthetic and characterizations. I started watching it originally because of Lee Pace, who I loved in Pushing Daisies. Well, and because it's on AMC and I've liked almost every AMC-produced show that I've watched so far (did anyone watch Rubicon? Man, was I disappointed when it wasn't renewed. I haven't even been able to find it to stream).

Interesting to ponder whether or not Cameron Howe is on the spectrum. Seems that some online believe this as well.

Well, it's the final season for "Halt and Catch Fire". Interesting to see Cameron's struggle with game design, having taken the "Myst" mentality versus struggling to compete with FPS classics like "Doom". With Joe and Gordon struggling to create the ultimate engine while competing against Joe's ex-wife Donna who has the same objective.

Funny to see this show changing all those real names in tech we all know and love to "protect the innocent". :p
