Hard or soft

Mine is my Peanut. :D He's a soft bear.
I'm almost 18 and I don't think I'll ever grow out of him. :D
Funny, my favourite soft toy is called peanut. He's a chimp though. I rarely hold him now though but I did for about 10 years.

I actually named all of my soft toys after nuts. There's Peanut, Almond, Cashew, Hazelnut, Macadamia and Pistachio (not joking).

Yes I sleep with my teddy called Cocoa ... He comes to hospital with me too if I ever have to go.

He definitely has a personality and a soul. He provides me with such comfort.

I used to sleep with some "hard" toys, when I was much younger. I loved stuffed animals as a kid, and always carried one or two everywhere with me, but oftentimes, my comfort items weren't soft and plush, or even "toys" at all! Some of these objects included a yellow plastic feeding spoon, a plastic Super Mario toy, a toy of Pongo from 101 Dalmatians, a seashell, or a yellow plastic sea lion.

In fact, when I transitioned from a crib to a "big-kid bed" as a toddler, the toy I slept with most often was a rubber squeak toy of Piglet from Winnie the Pooh.

These days, I only sleep with soft stuffed animals - my favorite "hard" toys watch over
me from my nightstand and shelves. :)

Yes I do. I have a very small heart shaped pillow that I sleep with every night as a comfort thing. And I sleep all cuddled up under the blankets even in summer.

I babysit two kids and when I nap at their house before the youngest wakes up I sleep with two particular throw blankets on the very comfy big armchair that has an cushioned ottoman type thing that goes with it. It has to be those two no other two work.

object i sleep with is hard, door closers in fact, not just for security, but I'm the sensory type of aspie, and I find it a bit calming with the cold hard heavy cast iron device laying on or next to me and me touching the pebble texture of cast iron, I have found that putting them on middle of my chest helps with sleep the best (pressure point there).

if I don't sleep with them, I end up having bad dreams or not able to sleep at all.

Dirtdigger, if people annoy or make fun of you on here, you can ignore them, as not everyone here has the same symptoms and they may not understand how it is like to have more severe case of autism/aspergers.

could be worse, as once TLC network's "My Strange Addiction" has contacted me once (3 years ago) when they were finding Objectum Sexuals to interview, and well, they thought I was one of them, all until I told them that my sleeping habit is related to having autism/aspergers and it's a sensory thing, nothing sexual about sleeping WITH a door closer, neither is it a habit I should get help for kicking the habit for either (talk to a shrink or a doctor for)

only side effect I would get from sleeping with a closer, markings on me from the bolt-hole locations and if I move too much, they can fall to the floor or if it it was a really badly used one, risk of oil leaks.

we are just people with aspergers/autism, not side show freaks or need to be on a show that will make you look like an idiot.

ohh well, that's how media works these days, they hear the words "sleep with" and they instantly think OHHH a sexual one to do a clip about!! well, the producer of MSA got a screen full (on facebook) when she tried that technique with me.

-doordoctor
Wow, you said it very well, doordoctor. And you are so right, that our symptoms are so varied under each of the criteria given by the DSM-5. Other Aspies don't necessarily have to understand, but, they don't need to poke fun either. And the last thing we need on a forum for those with Aspergers is poking fun at each other.

I'm glad you mentioned something about us having Autism as well and realize we are NOT Objectum Sexuals, not even those who are sexually aroused by objects. From what I can find out being sexually aroused by objects is consider as a sexual disorder. But, that does not mean it is bad by any stretch of the imagination since many Autistic folks are very sexually active.
