Hello, I am new and overwhelmed with new self understanding

Hello, stans.

I also recently found out about my placement on the spectrum.

You'll find that this is a welcoming, wonderful place where people share their experiences and understanding.

I'm glad to have found it.
I'm glad you did, too.

Welcome.

It was upon an effort to understand my grandson's nature that I took tests and discovered to my great surprise what I am. A bright light went on

Well, let me be the first to assure you, that you are still you.
Many people panic, among many other reactions to the discovery.
You've just been given a little insight that you didn't otherwise have.

Let me here recommend the Autistamatic youtube channel.
This gentleman has created an amazing introduction to the subject, both for those on, and off, the spectrum.
You will find quite a few explanatory videos that will answer quite a few questions that you may have.

You also have, at your fingertips, a broad community of those of us on the spectrum, and a few that are not, who are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and will gladly help you upon your quest, whatever that may be.

thanks for the reference.
I just watched the introductory youtube presentation. It helped me to relate how different I/we are from nt people. I am smiling more with new understanding.

If you are acting out your assigned role year after year you may believe that everyone does the same.
I knew I was different but had nothing but internal guidance to move forward. I see patterns that others do not see and have enjoyed success that I share in many ways. My giant therapy dog and I visit Children's hospitals and nursing homes regularly.

I’m astounded that people can go through life not knowing they are autistic? I can’t imagine that journey.

Some of us just lived our lives thinking that we were no different than others until our own discovery day arrived.

Hi @stans and welcome :)

I'm glad you've found us. I hope we can help you get a grip on this new world you have just stepped into. I'm happy that your grandson has a companion on his own journey.
