Hello, recently retired and somewhat bored.

I hate arguing and find it often as useless an occupation as you can find, except if you are working towards your heart disease merit badge.

So I avoid it completely except in RL cases where it trully matters, such as an incorrect bill etc. But even then I try not to argue per se and simply stand up for myself as reasonably as I can without anger.
Actually I still like doing it to some extent Tom, but online versus face to face too much context and nuance is lost so things get out of hand. Before I left Facebook I was no longer on speaking terms with a few family members and at least three union brothers. Your approach is probably more constructive.

welcome to the club we sound similar, I am retired spending most of my time following up on my interests, lots of Utube videos, magazines American scientific , and discovery while I am on my stationary bike in the morning. collected for a while as I watched lectures. One magazine is good for three days of reading.
Thanks Ronald, I have a few things to wrap up, like where am I moving to and whether I will work 600 to 1000 hours this year and next, before I get really settled in. But I won't apply for my social security benefits for about 4 years and my union usually gives the option to work 600 to 1200 hours a year with no (600 hrs) to little (601 to 1200 hrs) loss of benefits.
I did used to get Scientific American and Smithsonian magazines, now that you mention it I may do that again.

Hi and welcome. My thinking is that it's fine and even important sometimes, to disagree, but not necessarily to argue. There are always a range of views and opinions, ideas vary, live and let live I guess. Respectfully.
Thanks Thinx. A Petty Officer in my shop expressed that sentiment by saying "The problem with a pissing contest is that even if you win you still get wet." He was a pretty funny guy.

It's probably fair to say some of us can get an idea firmly fixed at times and can't easily get out of a direction of thought. But that doesn't mean we have the only view that can be taken. Why argue, would be my thought. The other person has a right to their view. Although if it sounded mean or inappropriate towards others I probably would disagree and explain why.
Definitely. That tendency is called anchoring in Psychology.

They just dont (yet) get that the diagnose for most adults its for self discovery, self understanding and relief.
That's right Atrapa. I spent a lot of time looking over a DSM 4 TR trying to figure things out in the late 1990s. At this point I'm not sure how correct her DX was, shrinks are suggestible like everyone else.

It's one thing to THINK you are of a certain intelligence and have certain aptitudes. It's quite another to be tested via multiple professionals and standardized tests,...comparing your scores with the population,...and obtaining some real perspective of where you actually stand. It's this perspective that creates a sense of enhanced self-awareness that can actually be used in one's daily life,...knowing your strengths and weaknesses is certainly some handy information. In my case, it had nothing to do with seeking "assistance" of any kind.
Yes, and those online IQ tests remain popular just like horoscopes because they tell people what they want to be told.

Psychiatry,Psychology dont refer to Aspergers syndrome in the uk, for your dx its pdd-nos ,but again its been changed to very high functioning for the care component and a.s.d ,i say people with autistic neurology or neurodiverse ,if youre doing more research? look up Dr Lorna Wing ,London, Leo Kanner and H.Asperger are stuck in the 1940s,im like you very high functioning oh the irony!,recommend becoming a member of the internet archive, its free and they take donations of whatever !,can be perceived on the internet ,so books or recordings or magazines or art wont be going to despicably wasteful landfill, you can also donate financially in different ways, its based in the richmond district of San Francisco go to www.archive.org
P.S you can apply for print disabled status so you can loan whatever for 2 weeks ,failing that its hourly

Hello & welcome.
The Dr. said I was "definitely on the spectrum, but too high functioning to be Asperger's." Please don't ask for elaboration on that, as it would just be conjecture on my part.
That is known as ASD0.5, Half-Asperger's...
