Hoping this is "my" community

Hi guys,

I’m 26, married and a mom to a non-autistic five year old. We live in the southern US.

I've been in therapy for years and through that work have realized that I am most likely (like 95% sure) on the spectrum.

I am in the beginning stages of pursuing an evaluation, but so far it's looking like it will be cost- and distance- prohibitive, so it might be a while before I can actually have one done.

I have become very isolated and lonely - most of my jobs have only lasted a few months despite having an advanced degree and I have zero friends. My last two friendships ended badly after I realized that they were toxic relationships.

I'm really hoping that I can find some people on here that I can connect with and that I can begin to learn how to manage being on the spectrum while living in a world that really doesn't mesh well with being on the spectrum.

Finding this out about myself has been both a relief (my whole life makes sense now) and terrifying.
Hello and welcome. I'm new here too, and newly diagnosed. Great site. Amaxing feeling to supoort others and also finally get burning questions answered by others who actually get it. Enjoy!

Hello & welcome @KD7 .
...but did not see anything that talks about the meaning of the icons on each message, etc.
If you hover over the icons, there is a pop-up stating their meaning.

The easiest way to reply to a specific statement is to highlight that statement, and click on "Reply."

Hi KD :)

Hi @KD7
From what you've said so far I think you've definitely come to the right place. You'll find support and understanding from people of all walks of life and all over the world. Welcome :)

Hi KD7. Any questions about this site, there's a tree (@tree ) there that will always help you find the way. And this tree is full of information. :) Welcome to this forum. You'll like it here - everyone is understanding and helpful with lots of insight and similarities. Lots of good 'karma' on this site. :)

Thank you BeachLife, Crossbreed, Loren, Nitro, Autistamatic, Pats, Ezra and clg! I'm already beginning to feel at home here.

hopefully you're able to have some companionship and connection with your husband.

I do. My husband is my best friend, and we have some similar main interests so we always have things to talk about, but he spends his workday interacting with and managing a lot of people, so by the time he gets home during the week, he is all talked out. I, on the other hand, have spent my day alone and am ready to talk a thousand miles a minute. It gets a little overwhelming for him.

It's in both of our best interests that I find some other people to interact with :)

My wife is NT but she's still my best friend. She may not share my mindset but she understands me and works with me. She appreciates my Aspie traits end loves me FOR them, not despite them. I've learned that Aspie couples are often a great combination, but there are plenty of NTs out there who will accept and love us.

My husband is NT too - can’t remember if I already mentioned that. We have been together for 9 yrs and he has always told me that he loves my quirky traits - we just didn’t realize they were autistic traits until recently :)

We're both lucky people then :)
Either that or we both have excellent judgement. Either way I'm happy we both managed to make the right choice.

Welcome KD7! I'm new also and came here for much the same reason most of us are here for.

I am in the beginning stages of pursuing an evaluation, but so far it's looking like it will be cost- and distance- prohibitive, so it might be a while before I can actually have one done.

Personally in my opinion, (others may disagree) I think an "official" evaluation is not worth the bother. I'm 65 years of age, have known all my life something was "different" about me but most "official evaluations" are contemporary. Only recently have I "found out" I am an aspie. When I found out I informed my supervisor at work so he could "understand" why I was being "picked on." Needless-to-say two months later I was unemployed and a year later was forced into early retirement. Sorry to be so long winded but the point is - be very careful with when, what, and how an "official evaluation" may affect your future.

That's why I made the "What Next" video a couple of months back. There's a lot to consider before disclosing...

Autistamatic - Your video on empathy actually prompted me to join this forum. I liked it and related to it! I don't have time right now to watch your "What Next" video but will do so tomorrow. I'm sure KD7 should take note and watch it also.

Wow! Well I'm glad it prompted you to reach out to other Aspies :) Thanks.
