Here's another thought. Would you consider going if you could afford your own private room and do your own things while you are on a trip to wherever they go? If so, then another potential out is that you can't afford a private room and have no interest in sharing a room where friendships can get messed up. If someone actually wants to cover your private room even after that, then it might be worth it to give that a try.
