Say what? I go out all the time with wet hair. It just means I just had a shower and I'm clean. How is that bad???
I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so angry! I have a CD in the bank worth quite a bit of money and got an "URGENT" letter in the mail stating that "since the account has had no activity, you have to send in this statement with your signature by September 15 or the entire account WILL GO TO THE STATE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First of all, CD's are supposed to roll over on their own. Second of all, this account hasn't even expired for me to take any action on it anyway! I told my Ma that I'm just going to put it all into a savings account once it expires. What if that piece of mail got lost and I never received it? All my money would be gone! The banks are now going after people's money because the States are going broke!
Anyone who has any CD's or bonds you better be keeping track of those accounts. I am still in shock. And I tell you something else, when I go down there to sign that paper in person they are going to get a piece of my mind!
I just can't believe it.
Have you changed addresses at all since you established a CD with that financial institution? Are you certain the CD you purchased had a contractual rollover feature to begin with? If not, once the CD matures the bank may wash its hands of the matter. Lousy way to do business IMO...but it happens.
I wouldn't sign or send in anything just yet. Contact your bank directly first...verify this communication is legitimate from the bank first. The CDs I used to have did roll over automatically (but it was spelled out in the contract). Check your paperwork to see that rollovers are in your contractual terms and conditions.
Even if they turned it over to the state as unclaimed property you could still recover it. But you'd have to jump through bureaucratic hoops to do it. (I've done it before. A nightmare, but I'm good at paperwork.) Just don't ever let a third-party recovery firm process unclaimed property like that...do it yourself. They prey on people over such things all the time, by simply perusing online state lists of unclaimed property.
I know people laugh at the news sources I listen to, Judge, but they were saying this was happening. One guy (a lawyer) on the East coast said that he had an account and the statements for the account just stopped coming and when they checked on it the entire account had gone to the State. They were able to sue and get the money back, but a lot of people wouldn't know how to do that, like you said. This has never happened in my entire life. I and my parents have had CD's out entire lives so I know how they work. It's funny the bank is going after one of the larger accounts even BEFORE it expires. I'm not playing those games. And the letter should have come by REGISTERED mail! If it had gotten lost - I don't even know what to think I'm so shocked. The news sources I listen to also said that they will be coming after peoples 401K's as well. I didn't believe it either until it happened to me just now with my CD. The States and the Govt are desperate for money and they will find a way to take it - look up what happened in Cypress. They say the same is going to happen here too.

I'm going to the bank in person, Judge. If I send it in by mail they could say they didn't get it.
Good point. I'll do that. Thank you!Yes- in person. I certainly would. Request to see a bank officer....not just any teller.
I wouldn't jump to conclusions until you find out directly through the bank exactly what happened. But yes, any time you commit big money to a bank, you better be aware of the contractual terms to make sure they don't come to bite you back.
Ok. Get this Judge. I went to the bank yesterday with that letter regarding my CD and spoke to a woman (she actually deals in CD's for the bank). She read the letter saying she had never seen anything like it before. She even got a hold of "higher ups" who just told her to tell me to sign the paper and send it in - NO EXPLANATIONS AT ALL!!!!! She couldn't believe it either! She also said she couldn't believe that it wasn't sent registered mail and if I had not sent it in (WHAT IF IT GOT LOST IN THE MAIL?) then I would have lost my money to the State. The "higher ups" said it was a new state law - one that even she couldn't understand. They said my account was "Inactive", but even she said when she looked up the account that it was still in "Active" status. As you know with a CD, you deposit the money and keep it in the account for several years where it accrues interest and you cannot remove the money (without a penalty) or add to the money. The letter said that the account had not had any activity, but it had had TWO deposits which is considered "Activity". I was so mad (not at her) that I actually said "What you are doing is ILLEGAL ACTIVITY! You have not right taking my money and giving it to the State!" The account doesn't even mature until 2016! She AGREED! She wondered how many more letters were sent out because she said they deal with a lot of CD's that people leave in for years and let them just roll over. Even if the account matures and no interest goes into it anymore, the money should still stay in the account. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING!!!!! I know you deal in a lot of stock and things, Judge. Just watch your money. My parents have a lot of CD's too that they're going to have to keep close attention on. Once this CD matures, I'm putting it in a money market account of some kind.
Another thing, I asked if I had lost this money would the bank be liable to put it back in? She said "No" the bank would be out of it and I would have to sue the State. The States are broke! You wouldn't even know if you would get your money back and your normal person (like me) has no idea how to go about suing the State in the first place! I still can't believe it that I could have lost thousands of dollars on an account that isn't supposed to be touched by me in the first place until 2016! People can laugh if they want that I listen to Glenn Beck, but that is where I heard this was happening in the first place. The States are so broke they are stealing money from the people through any loopholes they can find.
Wow. That's not escheatment. That's just bureaucratic incompetence. I hope this isn't a large corporate financial institution. Then again I can think of a few I would never deal with for similar screwups.
If it were my account, once it matures I'd never do business with that entity again. Scary...
Hey, better Cottonelle than a corncob!![]()
I Can't Believe It! I used to really like reality shows like the "Housewives" of whatever county. Then I was sitting there one day and figured out that I was wasting my own life watching these other bimbos live their life. I stopped watching that very day. That's time I'm never going to get back!
Those poor squirrels... Why you give your used corncobs to those poor fuzzy-tailed rats? You are so right! Thanks for pointing that out.
Come to think of it, I used to throw out corn cobs for the squirrels to eat. I hope my neighbors didn't think I was using corncobs instead of toilet paper!Crap!
