I never knew. Autism? Oh that’s me

I seem to be the odd man out with no musical ability whatsoever. In primary school music class they got me to sit up the back and play the Triangle and I couldn't play that in tune either. :)

When I was living in South Melb a lot of my drinking mates were musicians though. Some of them put together an old fashioned 1940s style big band and I played roady for them a few times just for the chance to listen.
Cool, people who love what you play are gold. Everyone has their own skills. I’m not great at social events and find small talk irritating. Being on stage performing = massive dopamine happy time. Being polite and social before and after playing is ok but i’d rather not.

Being a roady counts. I’d go along just to dance. ;)

I’ve performed a few times and it has been nearly paralyzing fear. Of course, that is still better than socializing. I’d rather dance. I only play music for myself. The music lifts my heart and spirits.

I’ve been told that performing on stage or public speaking is the greatest fear for many people. when performing a on a low stage my keyboards were at eye level with the crowd and 8 guys stood there the whole time staring at my fingers. That was not terrifying more than well…. $&@$ irritating 😜 Equipment failure would be a huge fear for me. When I motioned for the guys to ‘move away’ one just gave me a thumbs up. I’ve played to people since I was a little kid so it’s a natural place for me. Being in a tight music crowd? Fills me with huge anxiety. I generally only go to music events only if i’m playing. I have support to help me get to the event and help me get on and off stage. Such is life with our fears and anxiety.

That's how I was with crowds when I was younger. Not sure if it's from spending so much quiet time in the bush or if it's age creeping up on me but I have little tolerance for it these days. I don't have any anxiety about speaking to people, tip a couple of beers in me and you'll have trouble holding me back, but I find the constant babble of voices extremely annoying and wearisome.
