I really wish I had more people to watch movies with.

It was different when I was a high school anime otaku and streaming was not a thing yet. I always had an excuse to invite people over - let’s watch the latest anime release which I could always afford to buy because of my PT job at the time.

Now I am 45, single, and all my local friends are married. I am less interested in a LTR and more interested in finding movie bros. You can call this arrested development.

It was always hard to find pals to hangout. I think life has become more complicated. l remember coming home from Jr High and running out and playing kickball with a group of my block kids l didn't even know their names. Life was so uncomplicated then.

I like watching movies with others too. I watch movies with my cousin sometimes, but she always brings a bottle of Dr Pepper and it makes her do loud burps in my ear, which is kind of awkward when you're watching a serious or sad movie.

I get it. I love going to the cinema, and my partner doesn't like it, so I'd love some people to do this with. But since we recently moved, I don't know anyone yet, and it takes me long to find friends.

Some Discord servers have movie nights, although finding a sever that isn’t full of obnoxious teenagers is a struggle. Maybe there are some LGBT+ or adult only servers out there that host watch parties?

If you’re looking for nerds or otaku to watch movies with, the best bet is probably finding them at a convention or local comic shop. There’s a comic shop near me that hosted an anime film festival over the summer. Maybe go to a tabletop game night and try to meet some folks. Most people into TTRPGs are nerds by definition (and I say that in a positive way).

Well, I went on Meetup. There are some local gay groups who meet to go to the cinemas once in a while. I’m in.
