I want to try something new here, a very different type of post

...And I'd like to see what you think of it.

This was inspired by a recent topic on here (which has a bit to do with communication issues)... It will be fully explained here, please do have a look:

It aint perfect, there's more for me to learn. But it's a start. Any thoughts on it are appreciated.

That was AMAZING!!!
I think you should have your own tv show :)

I think this is a great idea… I tend to make very long, borderline unreadable posts and I know it’s annoying lol.
But like you, Misery, I’m not good at being concise.
My voice is really irritating and I don’t like showing my face on video (it always makes me look like I have multiple chins ) but I’ll see what I can come up with… some of you guys would probably enjoy seeing a video of my dogs so maybe I can “narrate” something like that lol.
I can’t promise that I won’t talk for paragraphs like how I type, but this might be the only situation where my inability to form correct sentences and speak like an adult would be beneficial

I like the concept of using video to explain yourself, but this one seemed to be more about distraction, indecision, and rambling. I suspect that was the whole point, you are usually more direct that. I have trouble keeping to the point sometimes. I don't know if this is really you or an act. I may try something like this, if written words don't seem to work. Keep it up, but in the future, please plan it out better and say what you have to say. Unless, of course, that is what you are trying to say.

To some degree that's just A: me being myself, but also B: me being full of caffeine. NORMALLY I'd do these a bit later, as in, longer after I'd had the stuff. Caffeine makes me even more erratic than I usually am. In truth though, I'm always somewhat erratic.

It is indeed "really me" but I went into this not 100% sure how I was going to explain the whole thing.

There was another video I did awhile back... I think you actually posted a response to it (er... I think), a video where I was talking about and showing off VR in a general sense. That one, while still having a couple of mildly confused moments, was a bit more focused, sort of. I toned myself down a bit for that one. So that's another example of how these can turn out. Of course, in that video, I had a very specific topic to talk about (VR). Today's little video didnt have a topic as that wasnt the point. This is more of testing the waters, so to speak. To see what response it might get and if it's at all worth doing more involved ones that are on full topics about whatever. So, it's mostly about the format rather than the exact things said. If that makes sense.

You should totally do a dog video! I bet people here would love to see it.

Kind of a neat idea. Ironically, while I don't have issues with reading a lot of material necessarily, it does become a little more of an issue when the person writing didn't really attention to where it would have been prudent to start a new paragraph, etc. And I am one of those whose posts tend to get long, though I understand that some of us have potential stim issues with that, so I try to condense where I can, and warn those who could have an issue.

Misery if you feel that this way of commutating in here is like this then go for it. (Two thumbs up) But as Shamar said i agree this one was very hard to follow tho

I like it.
I realise this was like a test run, so, you were jumping around from one thing to another.
Being more concise about the subject you want to talk about should be interesting along
with the VR video.
Your voice is good for this too.

I'd like to know the story behind that long chain you mention,
if you ever feel inclined to share.

You know why the devil always drags a chain?

Answer: Ever try pushing one? :smilingimp:

It's a start, but a novel concept for sure and entertaining! I for one definitely would be interested to see what you churn out next so keep working on it!

I'm not one for long posts either with a handful of exceptions and you're one of those exceptions. Take that how you will, but I'm positive your no-nonsense, straightforward advice has been of tremendous help to many in the past.

Question though, about the avatar or character in the video: I know that your body movement is tracked, but does it track your facial expressions as well or are those automatic or what?

The expressions (and that knife, which technically counts as one) are controlled by the hand controllers, at the same time as controlling hand actions. That's why my expression in the video seems to "flicker" at times as I'm still not quite used to the way it works yet. The controllers are sensitive, MOST of the time I'm not pushing a single button at all but it registers whether I'm *touching* one, or in the case of the trigger, whether my thumb is close to it. I assume there's witchcraft involved.

However, upcoming headset models are theoretically going to contain eye trackers, so.... that's a thing that's gonna happen. Right now the eyes just move as they want. I think we can assume that overall facial trackers are in the works. After all, it just makes sense for this sort of application. But you'd have to buy a whole new headset just to get that functionality once it's available. And then, of course, have an app that can USE it (which VRChat probably will).

I personally am using the OLD Rift... the original... so my whole setup is a bit wonky. Watching the video back I noticed a couple of very clear error points and I doubt I can quite iron those out without upgrading, which I havent done because... er... because.

Okay, so, pondering all the feedback given here...

I do indeed have another video incoming in a few hours as there's a very specific topic I've been itching to dive into for a couple of days now and dagnabit I dont want to type too freaking much today (I say that knowing full well that I will end up typing a lot somewhere).

That one should be more focused.

Ah yes, the chain. That would be this thing:

CHAIN.jpg

There's not a whole lot to tell... I dont remember making the original. I say "original" because this thing practically molts. Every now and then one of the individual bits will A: fall off, or B: come apart, and it'll get replaced by a new one... this thing has ALWAYS been long but I dont remember how or why I originally put it together, that was... geez like 20 years ago.

There are only 4 actual keys on there: My car key, house key, and then two other keys that go to locks that dont exist. That's a whole story in and of itself.

EDIT: Okay, looking closer... THREE. Three keys that go to locks that dont exist. I... I didnt notice that extra key... somehow. Well, I'm confused.

I didn't know you had a youtube channel! So do I!

Aye, I have one, I just dont use it for much. Like, random gameplay videos to show to friends, usually... aint like I have a following. But recently figured, hey, maybe there ARE some things I can do with it. Even if I'm not quite sure what those things are.

Wait are we allowed to do unscripted video posts? I've been dreaming about that for years! I didn't know anyone else wanted to.

Love the Hollow mask. And I see you also know what it's like to have one ancient 100k+ view video on a tiny channel.

Yes, that video with all the views was... a very strange incident. I think that was right when that game was starting to explode in popularity.

The comment notifications drove me crazy for a LONG time.

Maybe this is appealing to me becauae I’ve wished before, that all the members could upgrade from member to VIP to & then to (?) a VSM (virtual space member) & interact inside AF with our own virtual persons.
Edited to add, i’d want to bring my cat, too.

@Misery
The chain is "charming".
I see the keys and other things that has personal meaning to you.
Love the Star Trek key ring and I see a Florida token on there too. Thanks for sharing!

Good idea @Misery
Without going scrounging around the internet, is there a Phone or PC/Laptop app that would do something similar to the OP video post

If you're looking for something with the full effect, then probably not... that video was done in VR using the Oculus, VRChat, and a magical floating camera thing (so that the video records from the camera's view instead of from my view).

I then used Xsplit Gamecaster to then record THAT since VRChat sends the output of the camera to the actual screen.

So, that's how that mess worked.

That's a really neat video, I guess I dont quite understand how it's done, may I speculate?

First you record the video, then alter it somehow. Or you recorded audio only and dubbed that in to a program that generated the character?

The actual explanation is likely a bit beyond me, for me a file has a handle on it, or else goes into a hanging folder. I digress

I like the avatar, and your voice is charming, the video effect is easy to watch and interesting. I would love to see you do the same process while reading a script, like poetry, or a story.

So curious about the modern ways, but it is confusing at times. Thank you for sharing
